i disagree with the critics of lemond commentary.

imo, his commentary, though dry, is competent, concise and almost always to the point. none of the bs of other commentators, just his direct opinion.

i always give former pro riders turn commentators more slack, as they were never meant to be earning their living by talking into a microphone.

I think "Lemond on Tour" is the best post-stage program this year. They actually analyse the race and have a lot of attention for the GC, instead of talking about football and French wine like most of the others do.

Been cringing so badly at British Eurosport's "translations" of interviews in Italian/French/Spanish. The voiceover guy only bothers to translate about two sentences despite the interviews lasting like 2 minutes.

The thing about the Kirby/Kelly double act is that there's nothing accidental about Kirby's stupid remarks. If you watch football punditry you'll see the same pattern -- media types alternately getting excited about every time a player sneezes and asking ex-pros what appear to be very stupid questions. That's their job. They're meant to whip up enthusiasm and the stupid questions are to get the pros talking and make sure they cover all the relevant topics. It's annoying, but it's the same everywhere.

It's funny when Sean Kelly launches into a massively long sentence talking about something, and he just carries on speaking about it while something important is happening in the race.

I think the British ES guys are good anyway. Hard for them to talk from midday to 4-5pm every day, but they do it well. Kirby is a lot better in this TDF role (adding in random comments and facts etc) than he is commentating.

I don't like Brian Smith, and Duffield is past it now but still nice to hear from sometimes.

I haven`t watched eurosport for years, i thought they had pentioned off Duffers, him and his infernal goats cheese.

What country are you watching in? The UK alternative is very 'straight down the middle' and only talks about cycling, albeit with a very British bias.

Really enjoying the Lemond on Tour segments now.
Straight up in love with Laura Meseguer.

I still endure the Phil & Paul on the ITV highlights for the different interviews too though.

That post is on the first page of the thread and three years old btw

as a sidenote, eurosport should NOT be airing those israeli tourism adverts at this hour. really really tasteless and disturbing.

The Michael Schumacher comments were also distasteful.

Glad I'm not the only person who cringed at that. I enjoy Lemond on tour a bit, but he obviously never comes across as remotely intelligent.
