I watched the stage and had my eyes on Sagan throughout the finale. He lost a couple of positions on the Muro but was never dropped.

Delgados is referring to Yates dropping everyone in the peleton which includes Sagan - Which is in line with Kirby's commentary at the time.

I will add that Delgados dotted point summary of Kirby's call in the last 5 km is accurate.

Yes, Kirby makes mistakes but half the time posters make things up - The strangest thing is when he made his biggest blooper in one of the stages of the 2016 Vuelta, n which he called the wrong winner, hardly a word was spoken - Somehow he missed Keukeliere as the winner and I am still confused to this day how it happened .

So Yates drops everyone on the final climb and goes onto win the stage - So as magical as Sagan can be at times, he wasn't dropped by Yates.

Again, refer to the video. Sagan is falling like a rock with 3.9 km's to go. CK is watching the same feed as us. The shot lasted no more than a few seconds. Anyone in their right mind would point out that Sagan was getting dropped. No one cares about Big Joe.

Also, I completely agree with yaco. People just make *** up. And yes, my man CK makes some glaring mistakes that go unnoticed by those who stick to the absurd claim that he knows nothing about cycling.
I remember watching a spring classic race a year or two ago when CK referred to two "teammates." He clearly forgot they were former teammates. I remember thinking this thread would light up like a Christmas tree, but there was not a single peep. In fact, I was the one who mentioned it and the braying hounds used it as an example of how inept the guy is.

I have no reason to mistrust you, but are you sure that CK is not scheduled to call the upcoming monuments cited above?

I'm no way CK's greatest fan but must admit I was disappointed not to see his name featuring more on the list.
I do miss his enthusiasm especially in calling the finishes, even his errors in naming riders gives you a sense of superiority when shouting at the screen " no, it's not you twerp" ( or maybe that's just me!) The Tour de France just wouldn't be the same without his anecdotes to liven up the hours of the peloton just riding through the countryside.

I don't think either of you have read Argyll Flyer's preface to the list. He has a source for future engagements for Hatch, not for other commentators. That does not mean that they do not have upcoming bookings.

Yeah Armchair Cyclist has it right - I simply add the races as they pop up on the TV guide and any others that the commentator himself has claimed to be doing, as they come up. Kirby will do Flanders I would imagine. And as they show the whole of Roubaix, someone else will be with Hatch, it was Quigley last year though I think.

I've added a few more race Belgian races today. I would guess Kirby might do Pays Vasco in April too. He's also a certainty to do the Tour and the Vuelta.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Matt Stephens’ commentary as of late and I believe he makes a great partner for Kirby. He can dial up the enthusiasm when necessary but also tone it down when Kirby inevitably gets silly and starts to ramble.

I agree that the two make a great pair. They know how to riff off one another and keep the flow going.
Much better than CK and Sean Kelly, where one gets the feel that a happy and slightly drunk guy crashed a funeral.

Turning it around, I think the worst ever pairing was when David Harmon was pulled out of the Giro coverage at the last minute in 2013, and his replacement was Declan Quigley who up 'til then had done a bit of cycling commentary for the Tour Series and not a lot else. Kirby and Hatch were unavailable (Hatch doing other things for ES like Dunkirk, Kirby off in Italy for RCS). So Quigley, who really was the student learning the Euro peloton on the job, had Kelly for company for 3 weeks. My god. I really like Quigley - I liked him from the Tour Series stuff I'd seen before and I've grown to like him again on ES, but it was painful viewing at times during that debut year. But that Giro... it really was something.
