If the Giro doesn't return to Sporza or atleast gets bought by VTM in the coming years I'll think about doing a pilgrimage to raise money so they can buy it back because Karsten Kroon can tell anecdotes like my grandma can dunk a basketball. (Spoilers: she can't)

I'd donate as much as I could, honestly who thought it was a good idea to make him the commentator? He's telling things like nobody wanted to share a room with Lars Bak because he snores a lot. I doubt anyone is interested in hearing that.

Guess that's why Adam Hansen has been rooming with him at every GT they've done together, which is - if I'm not mistaken - 14...
Hansen did, however, have a bit of an "issue" with Bak's "alien tongue" a few years ago.

Shocking again from Kirby- thinking Ulissi was Atapuma and Betancur for L.L. Sanchez!

And he keeps calling it wrong. After almost any attack, 'I think they have this one" Kelly goes quiet and says 'Well there is still a long way to go"

His drooling over Froome is incredible irritating.

Unfortunately I have been unable to watch a single stage narrated by my man Carlton Kirby, so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume CK is "drooling' over Froome.
Please understand that it is the job of a commentator to bring in ratings by mentioning a rider from the host broadcaster nation.
If you watch a US feed you're going to hear about whatever rider from the U.S. is in the race.
Same goes for every single country.
A commentator would not be doing their job if they didn't mention a rider from said nation.
It is CK's job to light up a race, and it is Kelly's job to provide perspective.
You guys can do better than this. The constant CK bashing is almost embarrassing to read.

Again, I'm giving you and everyone else the benefit of the doubt, so maybe CK is drooling over Froome.
The guy in pink does not ride for a British based team.

Besides, I'd say there's a difference between who reporters seek out to interview after - and before - a stage, and who the commentators talk about during a stage.

I'm only going to repeat myself for the 100th time.
It is the job of a commentator to highlight riders from teams of the host broadcaster's nation.
For some reason, I am only allowed to see the Giro feed from Israel, and although I don't speak the language, I know Israel Cycling Academy when I hear it. And although the riders are pretty much pack fodder, I hear it a lot.
Know what I'm sayin'?

Carlton Kirby is just terrible. As previously mentioned Ulissi was Atapuma, Betancur was LL Sanchez, Mohoric was first Bonifazio then Dennis. Pozzovivo was today apparently working for Bonifazio. He is just blathering left and right, naming cyclist that have nothing to do with the ongoing action, asking stupid questions to Kelly like: Is this gonna stick Sean?...when two random riders have a 5s gap with 15km to go, and so on and so on...

And delgados I don't care how you spin things and try to portrait him in better light. I know what I hear. And I won't stop listening to him because I love cycling and watch any race I can get on a stream. But the fact remains, he is a bad commentator and it's sad he is actually getting worse at his job as time passes by. One would expect someone with so much experience will eventually get better at the thing he does for living (or for hobby I don't care) but not in his case. He apparently doesn't need to or doesn't care, which is again just sad.

No it isn't. It is the job of a commentator to highlight riders who are in the thick of the action. While a reporter of course may decide to primariliy interview riders - regardless of team - from host broadcaster's nation. Maybe the Israeli broadcasters just haven't figured that out yet, and are pretty stoked about having a team in the race.
Besides, what are all the commentators from countries that don't have a team gonna do?

Like ghosts Kirby keeps seeing his favorite riders instead of the actual ones otherwise it might be time for a trip to the optometrist. But as long as the trips for ice cream and coffee are related correctly well that's all the matters............

Reichenbach wins atop Zoconlan then ;) ...

Poor Carlton can't win - Highlights riders from the host broadcaster which they all do so he is criticised - It's suggested he concentrate more on the race and call the race even with 70kms to go - He'd better start calling riders from 1 through to 169 in the peleton which will make for riveting listening - Watching the last 10kms the only rider I could clearly identify in the front at my initial viewing was Mohoric - Then again some users of these forums have laser vision eyes which are wasted - Of course the irony is Dennis who is allegedly one of Carlton's favourites has barely been mentioned, even though he is riding a good race - And i forgot about Reichenback who in Carlton's eyes is doing a Zubeldia.

1. My issue was with the delgados' claim that the "job" of commentators is to highlight riders from the teams of the host broadcaster's nations, meaning that - apparently - it's better for a British commentator to talk about Froome, than talking about Yates, simply because Yates happens to be on an Australian team. And I suppose during the sprint stages the Italian commentators can't talk about Viviani, since he's on a Belgium team...
But I guess I'm just lucky that I'm from a country that doesn't have a team.

2. It's okay to talk about other things when nothing happens in the race. However, it's pretty clear from comments in this thread that Kirby continues to talk about other things, even when things start happening in the race, as I mentioned earlier; a commentator should be able to literally interrupt himself as soon as something starts happening.

3. Well, he's an Australian on an American team...

3. Well, he's an Australian on an American team...

Point 2 - Kirby is about the best in the business at giving a colourful and exciting call of the last 5 kms or so of a race.

Point 3 - Posters complain about Kirby's fixation with certain riders - He's been criticised for an over-emphasis on Dennis and Reichenbach amongst others, yet when I point out they have barely featured in his commentary so far in this Giro, you come up with the lame excuse that Dennis is an Australian on an American - AFAIK, dennis hasn't changed his nationality and neither has BMC.

Point 2. Yet a lot of people around here make it pretty clear that Kirby is pretty slow to react when stuff starts happening before 5 kms to go.

Point 3. But then the delgados came in and made that completely silly claim that commentators are required to talk about riders on teams from the host broadcaster's nation (Sky for Kirby).
Well, actually, when someone complained about how Kirby would 'drool over' Froome, at first it was "Please understand that it is the job of a commentator to bring in ratings by mentioning a rider from the host broadcaster nation."
Then, when I pointed out the fact that Simon Yates is literally riding around in pink, and has won two stages, it was suddenly "The guy in pink does not ride for a British based team." and then "it is the job of a commentator to highlight riders from the teams of the host broadcaster's nation."
So, maybe Kirby suddenly realised that he's not supposed to talk about a guy like Dennis

Oh, RedheadDane, can we put this issue behind us and enjoy the Giro together?
I will grant you that I made a "silly' comment regarding Froome and Yates. Like I said, I have not watched a single second of my man Carlton Kirby during the 2018 Giro D'Italia. Hence I am giving all the braying hounds the benefit of the doubt when they say CK is drooling over Froome.
You make a great point regarding Yates, and for that I apologize.
That said, my point stands. It is the job of broadcasters to mention names of riders who come from the same country. If my man CK has not mentioned the race leader, then he is not doing his job. (Something tells me otherwise, but that does not matter. Those are just the voices in my head.)
Watch one stage from the U.S. feed and count how many times an American rider is mentioned.
Watch how many times the Israeli team is mentioned on the host broadcasting network.
I could go on and on, but I'm sure you get my point.
I don't care if you or anyone else dislikes Carlton Kirby. But i will do my best to provide perspective (which sometimes is inaccurate) when someone jumps on board to bash the guy.

Funny that you keep calling us the "braying hounds" when you yourself is the trumpeting elephant.

But at least I get your point about the nationality of teams. When Team CSC were big, it was all everybody could be talking about in the transmissions in Denmark, even if they didn't pick a single Dane for the Tour (which was the only race I could really follow at the time).

No wonder I'm not a paid comedian.
Honestly, I do not a a beef with any one of you. The fake insults are just that--fake.
Edited to add to say thanks for your understanding. The entire sport is a business, from top to bottom.
It's all about gaining ratings; and the best way to do so is by mentioning someone with whom you can identify. No one in, say, the U.S. or Canada would be riveted to the screen when the broadcaster keeps talking about Jon Johnson from Sweden. It just doesn't work that way, especially in cycling, which is a pretty boring sport to watch.
