In terms of the race itself, it was good to get a preview last year at the Nationals. I watched from different spots around the course and will probably stick to the West End this time around. Forecast is rain which will make it interesting, particularly on the short sections of well-polished cobbles. Last year Stannard, Cav, Millar and Kennagh got away before the end of the first lap and stayed away all day. Stannard's fitness may be tested I suppose after his nasty bone-cracking tumble in G-W.

For me, Kennaugh has the form - British champion, success in Austria, success on the track this week. I guess it's obvious but a group of the WT guys is a strong possibility. The lesser lights from the Continental ranks struggled last year but some of them seem pretty strong in the Tour Series. It' ll be a good test of potential for some of them. Edit: Caleb Ewan will be interesting to watch. Definitely a course a sprinter can hang in on easily but it will be raced at some pace if last year's anything to go on.

Will be an interesting race, Ewan and Renshaw are fastest on paper by a fair way but Renshaw's recovery and Ewan's age may come into it. If so, Andy Fenn or Greg Henderson are most likely the ones to beat with South Africa not sending a team because Reinhardt would have given this a red hot go.

The TT will be interesting, Dowsett, Millar and Dennis are my top 3, although Durbridge could do a good time if he recovers. Can't see him beating Dowsett but may be able to take Millar, Dennis and Cummings.

It won't necessarily be raced as a bunch though IMO because of the overall weak field - it' might be that a small and strong group that gets away early. I think the course favours rouleurs over sprinters. Would you still back the fast guys if they're working in a break all day?

Of course, it could alo be a small group of no hopers that are given free reign for half the race. In which case, yeah sprinters to the fore.

Edit: just watching the footage I filmed last year, I forgot that Fenn and Stannard were the initial break chased down by Cavenish, Millar, Swift and Kennaugh.

That Aus team has no excuse for splitting up on a course like this, Dennis, Haas and Hepburn are fresh and plenty strong enough to keep Ewan out of trouble, even if the rest of the team is tired from the TdF. There will be far more WT/Pro Conti riders than you expect, even without South Africa there. The field is far stronger than 2010.

If England ride for Fenn, they'll have a shared goal I suppose to share the workload, and NZ too if they but this is anything like a typical city centre circuit.

Here's the footage I filmed:

You see the course from about 4m onwards. Captions didn't work on youtube very well for some reason. I filmed from all around it in an anticlockwise direction across the day.

It'll need to be raced hard and fast to shake the sprinters. The climbs are sharp, but they are short and there is enough road in between to recover. I was convinced last year that a guy like Millar or Stannard would get away. Didn't happen though as the field wasn't strong enough and that might be the case again this in the Commonwealths.

Going for Jesse Sargent in TT, with good stage win in Austria. Road race will see someone try do a what nz done 2010? hoping hendo could get it. But some good roleur in the field to.

Oh well enjoy they race guys :)

Dont know where you got that from. It is merely used as an indicator for the Olympics in 2 years time for most sports. Its getting more attention because in the UK because its hosted in Glasgow but normally people couldnt care less.

We'll it is what is. And it's an opportunity to cheer on athletes who wouldn't normally qualify for other, bigger championships (go Guernsey!!). Plus the TT course is partly on my commute to and from work so I'll go watch and enjoy it all the same.

Btw, does anyone have a link to a start list?

More or less the only opportunity for Thomas and Rowe to represent Wales, and Kennaugh for the Isle of Man.

Really looking forward to seeing how Stannard performs. Cummings also, but he seems to down for the Tour of Poland which starts on the same day?

Start list info a bit thin on the ground. Very jealous about your commute:)

I don't disagree but it is actually not a bad quality TT and a tricky one to call. Want to be brave enough to call it;) My money (literally) is on Dowsett:)
