The last stage in which Rasumssen participated in the 2007 TdF was very dramatic. I recall AC and Levi (maybe I'm wrong) attacking Rasmussen multiple times until they cracked. Rasmussen took off and put time into both Disco (or was it Astana?) riders.

Yes, that was on Aubisque I think, last stage before Rasmussen`s exclusion.

Stage 16 Orthez - Gourette-Col d'Aubisque 218.5 km. Rasmussen was at the top of his powers, but Contador was just emerging at 24 y/o of age, & inexperience played a great part of his failure that day-he literally was drained in the last 2km & Leech-haimer ended up towing him up to the finish line...

ya i think thats the best answer for this thread.

rasmussen was indeed able to to beat contador but we can't forget that it was a 24 year old contador on his second GT.

ricco was beaten by an not on 100% contador with a broken elbow (even tho we do not hear about it as much as we hear about cry evans broken elbow)

armstrong was never a rival. contador knew that he could put time on armstrong at will(like he did)

schleck is a tough rival. but he got beaten by contador by 4 minutes once and was still beaten by not on top shape contador last year by 30 seconds. also the fact that he lacks the panache and class of contador doesn't help his case.

Being a Contador fan, it's comforting to know AC got beaten by Rasmussen, in fact I've never seen AC's agonic face than that afternoon in the aubisque; this would've looked worse if he woul've beaten a proven cheat like the chicken

Actually, I think Levi rode away from AC since he (AC) was totally cracked... Man that was a Great stage!

I think it is andy, even contador agrees. However if rasmussen was not banned it might have been him.

It would have been interesting to seen Ivan Basso in top form against Alberto. I think he would have battled against a proper diesel climber.

I honestly don't think AC has a rival yet. Andy needs to really put pressure on Berto this time around, more so than last year, to be a legit rival.

They are only two years apart; AC is in his prime (can he get better?) and Andy should be entering his. There is definitely potential between the two to have a great rivalry, and I would hope that it can extend beyond the TDF. If they were going back and forth in other GTs and the Classics, that would only add to the rivalry potential.
