This sounds like a story from the early '90s when Ayrton Senna got busted for speeding. He was tooling around in his Acura NSX in England when he got pulled over. The cop looked him square in the face and said, "Who do you think you are, Nigel Mansell?"

Sorry if:
A. You didn't get the joke.
B. I dated myself.

oh my . . . . lawlz

great story :D

also this story is wrong. the real story is that tunnels have lower speed limits and berto was going uphill above those speed limits. so ticket for you mr contador.

Several regular bicylist passed Contador and his teammates while they were discussing with the police. None of those had light on either but they werent stopped. French harrashment cos they dont want him in the Tour?

He was probably a fan and wanted his autograph, not having the latest picture of Contador winning the Giro he settled for the signature line on his next ticket. :D

The tunnels in question are the two long, narrow, unlit ones just east of the town of La Grave on the descent of the Col du Lauteret toward Bourg d'Oisans. This is the route that will be taken on the stage from Modane to l'Alpe d'Huez.

It is a 90 Euro fine for riding in those tunnels without lights. This policy was implemented because several cyclists were killed in those tunnels.

Then make them lit.

this was a huge LOL... got to remember though, when the race is on, the road is closed to traffic.
i wonder if AC cried to attempt to get out of trouble?

As a general rule, I frown on cops needlessly harassing foreign Spanish speaking men, but I'm gonna let this one slide :D

Actually according to the well-informed source he tried to convince the policeman that his lamp got destroyed by leaking chinese batteries his team brought from Spain and due to the health and environment-protection concerns he had to throw it away and does not have it anymore.

That's just silly on the part of the officer.

No it isn't. Stop being so defensive of your boy, Alberto. Even with lights from other cars, it is still quite possible that someone could miss him as you have to consider the speeds of Alberto and the other cars. A light on Alberto's bike would make the situation much safer. Even so, it is a common mistake.

I do look forward to seeing pics of TdF riders no longer 'making common mistakes' and training on bikes with all the right safety equipment - rear view mirrors, plenty of lights festooning the handlebars and rear stays, yellow vest with reflective strip, helmets with bird-scaring antennae, spare parts, extra warm clothing in panniers and an impressive beard.

Well I'm sure Evans will have them on his bike, cause he's your boy and Austrailians always follow the rules. Right?

Thanks for the lesson.

Absolutely. I'm sure that ACF rides nowhere without the mandatory bell and reflectors in his front and rear wheel spokes.

Well have you ever seen any cop trying to pull over other members of the public when he's in the middle of booking someone already? They never do that, don't be naive.

But IF i was a French mountain cop, and i heard a certain legally wrangling, escapist, money dripping out of his pockets Spanish rider was on my turf...then hell yeah I'd bust his a$$. Course the gendarme coulda turned a blind eye, but i think we all know why he didn't.

Now, now...

Pretty amusing topic, I must say. Was tempted to change the title of the thread as being misleading, but I like it.

Again, Evans is totally unrelated to the thread topic so please try to not derail this thread.

Thank you.

I see the little yellow bus has arrived! Perhaps you should keep reading a little further into the thread before wasting so mny precious syllables after I've acknowledged my mistake and moved on. And you'll note it wasn't a defense of AC--I really thought it was silly on the part of the officer.

I'm so not like you whe it comes to being a fan. I just like how he races, my life does not revolve around his existence.

Maybe he needs some glow in the dark spokey dokeys on his wheels as well.
