Contador: Tour - Vuelta double for 2012

Vuelta 2012 is looking awesome already.

Spains biggest cycling star since Indurain going all out for Spains biggest cycling race. Way bigger than when he did it in 2008. Especially if he wins the Tour.

They can also hype it as the never before done Tour Vuelta double. (Vuelta Tour was different).

Moreover a tired Contador will prove far less dominant than the ready to fire version. Could be a very interesting Grand Tour.

Of course, but that goes on clinic, i just focused on the professional stuff :)
Just saying. All this talk may be pointless. But then what is a forum if not pointless talk. :p

I truly believe he has the engine for a giro - tour, tour-vuelta he just need to plan the year correctly, not like this year where he didn't save energies for the tour,

All depends of course on the participation. I think some will say it will be as boring as this Giro.

This man is really cementing his reputation. Dont forget Indurain never competed in La Vuelta during his Tour-winning streak and was loudly criticized for it.

I am not so sure about Giro/tour/Vuelta, especially with lots of "specialists" nowadays that only race the Tour and then relax for the rest of the season.

A Tour Vuelta double is 100% likely. Specially if he wins the Tour.

First things first, CAS needs to solve his case. If absolved, Saxo could get some budget and assemble a decent team.

One thing is for sure, whatever CAS decides, once Alberto is back all the other guys are racing for second! :p

I have wrote it in the Vuelta 2011 thread, but for those who may interest this info:

"I will be in the Vuelta next year" which implies he will try the Tour - Vuelta double next year.

He also says that he won't ride the Vuelta this year, but that was obvius.

This just shows how arrogant and clueless the guy is with a pending CAS case that only 1 out of 250 athletes beat, this guy thinks it's a foregone conclusion that he will be exonerated.

I think he has a better chance of doing the Tour/Vuelta then the Giro/Tour. What we saw this year at the Tour tells me it is almost impossible to beat the best opposition at the Tour tired. A weaker field at the Vuelta - maybe (if it is indeed a weaker field).
Also, the organizers might tailor the Vuelta parcours to better suit AC - more TTs.
I hope he doesn't get banned though. It would make the racing much more boring. Schleck would certainly once again feel he doesn't have to attack early to win.
Anyway, there's a long way to go to Tour 2012.

It's seems he discuss with Bjarne to avoid Giro (and triple for the moment) and focus Tour and later Vuelta tired but with the home fans around.

Sounds great to me. The Giro is awesome with or without him. Vuelta needs a boost, he'll be welcome.

Agree with all of that, apart from the banning. If his guilt is proven, I hope he gets banned.

That's gotta be the first time in history that we know the 2012 winner before the 2011 winner.

Tour-Vuelta double (=winning both back to back) has never been done since they moved the Vuelta.

Can he do it? Maybe, depends on how much time there is in between and on the competition, but he couldn't do a Giro-Tour double this year so i have my doubts.

He was injured! I don't think we know a Giro-Tour double is impossible. He came in fifth nursing an injured knee for part of the race. What if he'd never crashed? He could easily have been on the podium and maybe won it. But, I don't think we know a Giro-Tour double is impossible yet.
