I'm thinking a breakaway will take this stage. Who will win? No clue. :) I just don't think it'll be the GC guys...although I'd love to be wrong. I think Sky will try really hard, but Contador will at the least come in with the same time as Froome. If AC doesn't come in with Froome it will be ahead of him not behind. :D

froome will attack but alberto will follow

I agree. A breakaway to win. Katusha have been burning up the roads on this one, so good money follows a repeat on that.

Talansky won't be allowed to go up the road. So, no win.

Unless Saxo totally dogged it on stage 7 and saved energy, which I DOUBT, AC will end up in modest group of leaders, with Froome, again. Froome won't be able to drop him, but neither will AC find the spot to drop Froome.

Final GC: AC to take it by 8 s.

Ah, yes, I remember that. Westra looked more helpless and cooked than that! AC was no better. Froome was only very slightly less overclocked.

Dang, if AC can get back on form and stay there, what a marvelous race we should see when Quintana targets the tour!

I think Quintana was more empty,he later declered that in this stage he felt the worst physical pain in whole of his life:eek: ,but its hard to compare.

I read somewhere that AC wants to target Giro-Tour double again, and Nairo declared this too once, next year might be even more epic than this:eek::)

I absolutely totally agree. Anyone who watches football/soccer knows how a little drama can enter the picture!

As Froomey clearly is affected by his injuries, I also expect AC to win the overall (what a shame). However, I hope Froome at least tries to unseat him. If not, he could send Porte or Nieve out for a stage win- would be good for the team spirit, I guess...

Froome is injured and AC is extremely strong, so I don't think SKY will try any furious Alien mode. This time Predator was just better...

No, nairo said the usual bs a giro winner just says after winning the giro about maybe targeting the giro in order to, you know, not disrespect the giro while they are standing in Italy with the trophy.

It means zilch.

Every giro winner says it and yet not one since 2007, has actually returned.

I know it could be polite bs talk like you said, but there is a possibility if Valverde wants to target Tour again next year imo.Its very slim, but not impossible imo (10/1 odds if you ask me:D)

very good! Sorry to plead ignorance, details please?

Sorry Hiero, was asleep. Just saw this :)

It's Stephen Roche after stage 21 in 1987 tour.

Roche and Delgado were very close on the overall but with the final time trial coming up Delgado (one of the greatest climbers of his generation) needed to put minutes into Roche (a fantastic TT'er). Everyone expected Roche to sit tight and try and stay on Delgado's wheel at the last climb but for some reason Roche attacked very early in the stage. Delgado and the Peloton let him hang out there burning himself out before cruelly reeling him back in. He was completely cooked and the last climb hadn't even started, It was awful, Roche had just lost the Tour. Delgado put in a brutal attack and Roche could not respond he dropped further and further back. Delgado was looking for 3 or 4 minutes and he looked like he had it with ease. The camera's didn't even bother following Roche and instead watched the earlier break fight for stage honours while Delgado rode to what surely would be his first Tour de France victory. But as Delgado crossed the line a rider could be seen coming up in between the lines of team cars. No one knew who it was, surely it couldn't be stephen Roche he was 3 or 4min back! But it was, and somehow he had pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in cycling history and the camera's didn't even catch it. He only lost 7sec that day and went on to win the Tour in the Time Trial. It also led to one of the greatest pieces of cycling commentary. "Who's that rider? That looks like Roche! That looks like Stephen Roche!!!"

I know, a different sport (don't worry, there are bikes involved).

Ontopic, I expect AC to take the overall victory. Breakaway for the stage.

Yes, pretty dramatic. I think that is only about 10 yards past the condition Westra was in at the line. But of course, I'm only watching tv coverage, so one can't really say.
