Just looking back at some of Rog's performances on flatter ITT's, Vuelta 2020's 33.7km final time trial was quite interesting, insofar as he didn't really build much of a gap against Carapaz & Hugh Carthy on the flat (he semi-nuked the final muro though). Once again apples & oranges of course (because he was evidently tired at that stage of the season even though the ITT was a day after rest day), but Roglic is a consistent time trialist with results which exist on a spectrum between amazing on his preferred profiles down to fine on his least favorite.

I think yesterday was fine whilst by & large it was a good barometer to see who has the legs right now (just like Carapaz & Carthy in that 2020 Vuelta) with some riders like Enric Mas & David Gaudu doing pretty well, so I suspect they'll be in good shape at the weekend.

I thought Ganna won today? What's Remco got to do with it?

Well Remco beat him in the World Championships 2019 and even last year he was quite close in the European Championships in a pancake flat course.

Organizers are basically just daring WvA to win every stage

People have forgotten Pog was fastest on the flat section of 2020 TdF TT before the climb even started. Underestimate Pog at your peril.

Except that wasn't flat but rather a long uphill drag since km15 with a small descent before the LPBF started.
It was also the stage 20 of a GT so recovery has a much bigger importance

Van Aert not beating Ganna with better wind isnt something to be happy about
Van Aert riding two and four minutes behind the two riders who rode in front of him. Ganna riding one and two and three and.... minutes behind the riders in front of him. Van Aert was able to overtake just one at the end and had a rider in sight. Ganna was able to overtake three riders and had two riders in sight. Which is a huge advantage. Van Aert had to ride his TT with the official yellow jersey instead of his TT-jersey. That just gave Ganna more than 5 seconds advantage. The weather conditions got worse in the end. Raindrops and wind. In the same circumstances, Van Aert would have won the time trial with a lead of ten seconds.

that's what Jumbo said, but I'm not too sure about it, tbh. Wind conditions in the middle part were worse for those starting later on for sure, but they of course benefitted in the first and last part for the same reason, clearly visible on the timing sheets. Going by the amount of gc guys up in the standings, I'd say starting late on was no disadvantage.

So Jumbo now could ride for van Aert…

Wout could win this Dauphine. Only problem for him would/will be the very last climb of the whole race: Plateau de Salaison, the last climb (MTF) on Sunday. 11kms, 9% - that‘s better for Primoz.

The GC gaps are close, guys like O‘Connor, Gaudu, even Ayuso will be dangerous in the next days, until Sunday afternoon. The race will be exciting until the last meter. WVA, Primoz, Jonas could do a 1-2-3 in the final GC, or could still fail to reach the final GC podium.

Exciting! :)
Van Aert already ran into problems on the small climb (3rd category?) when he finally finished second after Gaudu. So he doesn't currently have the climbing legs to compete on difficult climbs. But Roglic and Jonas will be able to benefit from the yellow jersey Van Aert. If Van Aert is riden out of the wheels or if GC riders go on the attack, Roglic and Jonas can sit quietly in the wheels and not take over.

Judging by the late starters I think they had better conditions still.

I dont believe minute men are that important, but the skinsuit and Vam Aert going much harder the day before are bigger mitigating factors.

Also Van Aert is focusing on the green. Ganna on the opening TT. It would be normal for Ganna to beat WvA right now in equal curcumstances

Meanwhile I saw one report claiming Rog had a mild flat in the TT?

But didn't Pog beat Wout in a similar TT in the Tour?
Last year, the first week of the Tour, Van Aert was not on his best. He got appendicitis the first day of the altitude trainingcamp ( seven weeks prior the Tour) and had surgery for it. He missed not only the altitude trainingcamp and the Dauphiné, but he still had to prepare for the Tour in three weeks.

So, Van Aert probably missed the yellow jersey during the first two stages with arrival on a hill. And he couldn't win the first time trial like that. But during the second half of the Tour, he was probably the best rider. Because he was "fresher" than the opponents . He easily won the second time trial of the Tour. Poga was then destroyed.

Roglic didn't mentioned it himself. I absolutely do not understand why he was riding with such a huge gear. Very bad for the knee tendons. As he just returned from a knee injury. The first kilometers were still efficient. It went great. After that he started to shrug more and more and to sway the upper body back and forth. I really don't understand why the team, the trainer and the team doctor allowed such monster gear. Bad for the knees, bad for the body if not yet in top condition. Well, there is more I don't understand about the Jumbo team leaders.

Hopefully Roglic can avoid his usual Vuelta peak and be ready to challenge Pogacar in week 3 of the Tour. That said, the Vuelta could be a good one this year especially if Pogacar and Hindley also ride along with Roglic,Yates and Carapaz.
Vuelta will have a strongest field, again...
