Agreed, but it’s possible for another rider to win without challenging him directly, but instead rides away from a group of favorites and no one chases, a la Talansky.

Normally Roglic should be top favourite, and he still is. It's unclear if his knee problem, a temporary lack of training and racing, and the return of an injury at the age of almost 33 will have no influence. But even if he falls a little short in the Dauphiné, I wouldn't write him off as second favorite for the Tour.

Summarized. He will probably come up short in the Dauphiné. But the opposition is moderate, so it is not impossible that he wins anyway. Afterwards he should be able to compete for the podium of the Tour without crashes and without a bad day (the chances are increasing with his age). And who knows. During the Tour, Pogacar can also have a less good period, due to a crash, setbacks or illness. Maybe one last chance at a win for Roglic in the Tour. The fact that Roglic was forced to rest for a while due to his knee problems can then play in his favor.

Looks like Jumbo sends the A-team while most other teams are sending the C-team. Unless Roglic is taking it really easily he should clean this up. It's not like Mas or Caruso usually fly in prep races.

yup. Looks like most A teams are headed to TDS.

Hard to see Roglic losing this. The main GC rival for July here is Mas, who has a better chance of winning the Tour-Vuelta double than the Dauphine.

Haig and O'Connor seem the biggest threats here and they shouldn't have much to say against a (presumably) decent Roglic. I expect TGH to have a good showing here, hopefully Ayuso too. As for Gaudu, I don't see more than a top 10 here, which I doubt he can repeat in July.

Sadly DSM‘s Brenner recently had Covid, so DNF Norway. He was good there, only little gap to Remco on the hardest MTF there.

Covid certainly influenced his prep for Dauphine. I hope he shows a few good stages, nevertheless.

He‘s already good, IMHO - though many probably expected a little bit more. He was close to Vingegaard on a stage at Coppi 21, and close to Remco at a stage at Norway 22.

And had to leave Norway sitting in 5th position overall, after the hardest stage. Could have become a rank in the final Top-10 in GC. So Marco will be an „angry man“ starting this Dauphine…

Stage 1 starts early tomorrow (FYI @everyone), i.e. at 10:20am. So the tv broadcast should be around 13:00 & the stage finish at about 15:00.

So it's easy to miss on a Sunday afternoon if you're doing something else, come home, turn the tv on & bam, it's over already.

I'm curious how UAE guys, McNulty and Ayuso perform. The former was in a great form earlier on and is preparing watts to help Pog at the Tour. The latter is perhaps the future of cycling and TBH I see no reason why he can't be taken to the Tour if he's good enough.

He finished 8th on that stage on a not so little gap on Remco and behind riders like Huys and an even younger Uijtdebroeks. You're describing it as if he was competing for the win.

Now it's in, may be out by July.

Always convenient schedule of the opening stage just before RG final.
And the profile leaves options open. If someone commits and pushes PN style, digging in behind could be insufficient. The fact it's just the first stage might come into play, though... let natural selection do the work.

Erviti has continued the race (they delayed the start for him), but there's been another crash & Niklas Märkl (DSM) is already out of the race.

Hello World Tour racing in France, i.e. this is just the beginning of the butchery over the next two months.

I wish Jumbo will dominate Dauphine just like they dominated P-N. Ideal scenario, to me, is a race like this: three stage wins for Roglic, three for Wout, two for Vingegaard, and final GC win for Roglic, in front of Jonas. Points jersey for Wout. Team classification for Jumbo.

This would be great to watch, and decreases the pressure on Jumbo-Visma for the TdF.

Today, I hope for (and expect) a stage victory for Wout, then - ideal scenario - 2nd Laporte, 3rd Benoot, 4th Primoz…

The ITT win is probably beyond his reach because of Ganna & WVA (it's flat). Meanwhile the other stages all rely on the peloton (or his own team) pulling back a breakaway.

Tuesday for example looks like interesting stomping ground but again the race needs to unfold in his favor (& other teams are hardly likely to pull because they know full well they'll get smashed by Roglic in an uphill sprint).
