Tough one to call between Pog and Vigne- Remco should win but with the climb, descent and length of TTs gaps should not be that big at all between the big three

Prediction is Remco to beat Vigne by 10-15s Pog a further 5s behind Vigne but really have not got the foggiest

Wait, what? Someone has tried to cheat by taking a lift in a helicopter? How have I missed out on that anecdote?

1984 Giro last ITT: Fignon complained about the helicopter flying low in front of him to favor eventual winner Moser.

My top 3 prediction for ITT stage:

Pogacar
Remco +5s
Jonas +20s

Just like everybody else it seems, I would be very surprised if somebody not named Pogacar, Vingegaard or Evenepoel end up in the top 3 for today's TT.

But between them I feel like everything is possible on this parcours.

I do hope for a convincing Evenepoel win though.

Vino's son caught my eye on the early start list - from what i can see kazakh riders don't have the national flag next to them? I don't recall hearing Kazachstan beeing sanctioned the same way as RU/BR regarding flags

normally yes, I'd think. It's still a preparation race only, and the parcours isn't great either for Pogacar and Vingegaard.

Looking at the startlist I have a hard time seeing anyone other than Evenepoel capable of beating Pogacar and/or Vingegaard today.

What specialist do you think stands a chance? Perhaps Sheffield on a really good day?

yeah, maybe Sheffield, or Armirail and Jorgenson (although I wouldn't classify him as a speciallist). Foss hasn't done an ITT yet this year, but also looked better again in general. Usually the fight for positions in short time trials like this is relatively close.

Guys like Waerenskjold, Campenaerts or JPP will probably lose too much on the climb indeed.

Romeo (U23)
Evenepoel

I guess that doesn't happen very often.

Looks like the only intermediate is after the climb, so no chance to really compare performances on the flat and uphill.

There are quite a lot of good guys starting before TV coverage begins, like Waerenskjold, Cort, Healy, Politt, Campenaerts, Foss etc. Even Wellens said he wants to give it a go.

Johan Price must have crashed. Horrible time and Alpecin have no reason to not have him go full gas.

I’m going for Pogi to win. Remco will be taped up again + it’s day 4 already with a hard climb.
Vingo and Remco close to each other at 10-15”.

Foss, Waerenskjold and Tarling at the 2023 World Championships is probably the closest, but unfortunately the junior and U23 races were before the pro one which means the latter two had ceased to be the reigning champions in the previous two days. They did all compete at Paris-Nice in the same year but that one sadly only had the TTT.

he improved his stamina a bit this year, but I wouldn't be too sure. Most of his results come from easy ITTs at the beginning of races, and that's obviously for a reason.

Big freaking deal that Pogacar beat Vingegaard in a flat sprint, when the later stayed on his wheel on the climb, made the attack afterwards and finished 2nd in a reduced sprint. Looking at his skill set that is more impressive.

you forgot the part he did ZERO work once they were away; I have seen nothing we havent seen before from fisherman

Yeah, but I think the point is, that Pogi won't be able to "out-kick" Jonas this year, like he did last year.

He has clearly worked on becoming more explosive.

What it means to the other parts of his abilities remains to be seen.

The sole time check being at over two-thirds of the way in (by time) is always a bad choice.

I never said he wasn't, but in comparison to Pogacar he is not and that has been a tactical issue for him, which he has clearly worked to eliminate.

Jonas is worse rider than Pog in every aspect of cycling

The parcours isn't perfect for him, but I do think Remco needs to win convincingly, more for his psychology approaching the Tour as opposed to GC for this race. It's certainly what I'm hoping for.

Seems like a strong performance from Foss. Should be a top 10 today perhaps?
