It also used to be that way for the Tour... If that can change.

I think a middle ground could be found whereby the stages later in the week (mountains specially) should have full tv broadcast.

Obviously today's stage is an example that leans towards not broadcasting from km 0 because there's just two guys who rode off to show their jerseys and that's it. I doubt anyone would seriously find this interesting at the moment.

No TV coverage for the first 3 hours? Looks like we will only get the last 50-60 km.

Luckily you can watch Tour of Slovenian in the meantime

Yes, but it could have been a crazy battle to get in the break.
I am of the very un-humble opinion that it is better to have coverage of a race that turns out to be boring, than to not have coverage of a race that turns out to be exciting.
People can always decide to not watch the boring race.

IMO only GTs and monuments are worth broadcasting from km 0.

Like I said, you're free to not watch the whole thing.
And that freedom not to watch it makes it so that most people will not watch kilometer 0 of a Dauphine sprinter stage, which in turn makes it a complete waste of money.

Have the race on in the background, while watching other races, doing some cleaning, or whatever.
Organisers won't know a difference.

Right, sorry, wasn't clear. I meant from a broadcaster's perspective. They need eyeballs to justify the expense and to be able to sell ads.

Like I said; technically they don't need the eyeballs.
They simply need people to be logged in on Max/D+/Whatever service people are watching on.

And they won‘t get more people to do that by broadcasting more hours of cycling.

They certainly won't by broadcasting fewer hours.
You people keep acting as if you can only watch one race at a time...

I'm just trying to convince you to trick the broadcasters.
Log in/turn on your TVs, then do whatever. Not like the broadcasters will know what nobody is actually actively watching...

American viewers are doomed. I was hoping that Peacock would just pass on an international feed but no luck.
We get Bob Roll and Christian Vandevelde.

But I can't be the only one watching multiple races at a time... Like for example; right now you can also watch Catalunya. Brussels will go live later.
Slovenia, Brussels, and this Dauphine stage all in the same day? That's too much excitement. I would be in danger of a heart attack.
