It's funny seeing the peloton from that angle (helicopter showing it from behind), as you can see the front line of riders following the motorbike as closely as possible to the extent of weaving way across the road.

Alpecin have absolutely drilled this climb.

Almost worked, but not quite. Milan maybe 5-10 seconds off the back of the peloton. Another 1km at 7-8% would have made it more interesting, but having said that Alpecin had completely run out of domestiques.

Even a noob been wondering why is this stage. I can't get even the slightest excited about anything but animals it would seem.

Hinault had 2-3 mins at the top of the peyresourde. He was caught about 3 km after the summit.
He 'waited' becauses he knew he wasn't going anywhere, didn't have the strength to resist them, to thus save any chance of holding yellow. He then cracked on Superbagneres. Anyway, today is a boring stage, poorly designed.

If final was a bit more technical break would win this. Props to those teams, they actually tried. The typical strat to get some fresh guys to jump towards an early break later on.

This really is Thomas his cup of tea
