my last crash my stem slammed into my chest breaking ribs in the upper chest and my drop bar poked deeply into my abdomen making a contusion of the abdominal wall no pancreas damage luckily as that is what got hit. physically i could ride but racing would have been difficult at best. i feel for these guys they train all year for this so if they drop out you can assume there hurt bad enough.
You get it. Anyone who races seriously gets it.
The GC contenders work their bags off all year for the TDF, and it comes down to a roll of the dice on stages like yesterday and today. Every stage has its dangers, but why make it worse? Sure its thrilling to watch (like stage 3) but there are now several serious GC contenders whose TDF is done for all intents and purposes from what amounts to a crap shoot.
Why not just have the entire peloton go into a casino and roll dice all day and decide the GC for the stage that way?
Its a GT, not a spring classics. Throwing in the pave` sections really makes as much sense as throwing in an HC climb in P-R.
Yeah, its great to watch, but kind of stupid at the same time.
