I signed up for a Cycling News Sweepstakes last month... you know the ones right over there--------> on the right hand side of the Cycling News Home page (and every other page for that matter)... as I hit the enter button, I had the feeling that I should not be doing this, because I will be bombarded with SPAM!...
But then I tought, nope! Not "My" Cycling News!!! The site I visit a couple of times a day, my friend, my informational buddy! It could not... would not, do that to me... Me, the one who never signs up for give aways, me who rarely, if ever buys anything on line because I don't want "THEM" to get my credit card number, me who hates "SPAM" above all else.... but, alassssss....
It happened! and it did not take long... it could not have been more than 6 hours and it was "GAME ON" or should I say "SPAM ON". Luckily, I hadn't been completely ignorant and used a secondary e-mail address, one that hardly ever gets used... but the PAIN and DISAPOINTMENT was the same non the less. For the next 6 weeks I had to delete hundreds of "Viagra and Celebrex" e-mails! What a pain in the rear end!

So alasssss.... my days of signing up for any "Sweepstakes or Giveaways are over, and to my buddy Cycling News, I'm sorry to say you are at the top of my list. I guess it's the advertisers that lose out... because I ignore the "BLINKING" ads over there-------> and simply read my news and go away!

so i have no idea what you are talking about...

as for things like that, i have a domain with unlimited accounts so i set my emails by sites, so if i signed up for something at cycling news my addy would be cn@.....co.uk

that way i know where all of my spam comes from and can delete the offenders.. :D

Dim, i also use Opera but all i get is a big streak of whiteness down the right hand side. Not even those big boxes you seem to have. Which i'm assuming are flash boxes.

As for cyclingnews spamming. I've signed up for a few of them and have never noticed my spam levels increasing so i can't confidently say they do or don't.

I can't account for the fact that you seem to be receiving Spam after entering one of our contests but I can say with all confidence that we are not spamming you. We run a limited number of contests and host them within our own server infrastructure. If it was one of ours (and not a contest put on by an advertiser external to our infrastructure or a hijacked ad slot pointing to you a Phishing web page), we hold the data securely and handle it carefully.

Spammers are way sophisticated and intent on getting your info. I am not a tech expert but there could be a hundred other ways for a spammer to lift your email address not the least of which is infecting your PC with an application that watches your browser and captures personal information when you enter it into forms.

If you really feel that our contest entry form had somethiing to do with your spam problem, email me at smedcroft@futureus.com and I'll open a trouble ticket with our developer.
