Cycling Nutrition Webinar

Hello all,

Highlands & Islands Sport & Health Science are delivering a free webinar about cycling nutrition Thursday November 14th, 2024 from 18:45-20:15 (GMT). We have invited Professor Javier Gonzalez (University of Bath) and Owen Blandy (EF Pro Easypost Cycling team & USA Cycling) to share their insights into fuelling strategies for optimising cycling performance.

Javier Gonzalez is a Professor of Nutrition and Metabolism at the University of Bath and an internationally recognised expert in human fuel use. His areas of research include how we get fuel from our diet, burn fuels during exercise and store fuels when they exceed requirements. Javier has received substantial grant funding from research councils and industry to support his world-leading research. Javier is also a consultant to sports teams and industry and has previously worked with INEOS Grenadiers Cycling Team as a Lead Performance Nutritionist and Scientific Advisor.

Owen Blandy is the EF Pro Easypost Cycling team Head Sports Performance Chef, working with elite level professional cyclists. This role has taken him across Europe for the most prestigious world tour cycling events, including but not limited to Paris-Roubaix, Giro D'Italia, Tour of Flanders and Tour de France. Owen recently featured in the BBC Sport article, ‘Fuelling the Tour de France: Secrets of the team kitchens’. Owen is also the Head Sports Performance Chef for USA Cycling and catered for a team of BMX, mountain biking, road, and track cycling athletes at Paris 2024, providing meals for juniors, under 23 and elite male and female athletes.
