1983 Peace Race, the sheer hatred between Soviets and East Germans and how it transpired to the road. Intentional crashing of opponents, rider getting run over by organisers motorbike during the 2nd stage but being able to continue and finish the race. Also the utterly moronic , but probably quite entertaining tactical approach by the Soviet head coach and his deadly serious attitude towards the race defining importance of team competition. The name of the race has always been ladden with irony due the obsessively militaristic nature of the eastern bloc, but the irony has probably been never more so evident than in 1983.

The backstory for that "special" relationship would maybe make an even better movie though. In 1980 Italian Olympic Committee gave Soviet Unions team an invitation to 1981 Giro, which entailed a good amount of money for officials and unique sporting opportunity for riders as well as a chance to maybe open some doors that normally wasn't possible for eastern bloc riders at the time. The deal was kept secret, but East German officials still somehow found out. Then being jealous of the privilege Soviets had got, they went through party channels all the way up to Honecker with their complaints. He in turn took the subject up in conversation with Brezhnev and managed to convince the latter to veto the cyclists Italian adventure on ideological grounds. The riders were already in the hotel on the eve of their flight to Italy when they were told about the change of plans.

Okay, technically this is a cycling story - or rather several cycling stories - that is being filmed, but what storylines do you hope the Netflix documentary will focus on?
Of course, there's the fight for yellow, and now it seems likely the winner will be someone actually participating in the documentary.
I think another big story would be the one involving Jakobsen; how he almost died, then - less than two years later - went on to win a TdF stage on his first try, his battle against the time cut on stage 17 and his teammates' - particularily Senechal's - emotions when he made it.
Ag2R being down to three, but still tasting success through Jungel's stage win.
Cort with his attacking, polka dot time, and stage win. On the flipside - for EF - the internal drama when Bettiol pulled on the cobbles, potentially costing Powless a chance for a stint in yellow.
+ of course stuff involving Alpecin, Bora, FDJ, and Ineos.

I would like at least one story line about the demi-god WvA with some behind the scene shots, in which he cleans and rebuilds the bikes of his team mates, gives them a massage, puts them into bed, and next morning prepares breakfast, fills the bidons and rides the bus to the starting place while spreading the tactical plan he came up with during a late-night meeting with the DS.

I think they're only gonna include stuff that actually happened.
Sorry to burst your bubble...
