Seems like it was a cat that caused Gaudu to crash. Gaudu apparently has no fractures and for the cat, it did not end so well -

Did n't see it but PCS wrote at 39 km to go, a 5 guy crash including Gaudu. No cat mentioned.

I don't know whether he was necessarily right about Démare, but he was in a situation where he needed to fight for leadership within the team ahead of a Tour de France, which had a route that suited him. In the end that race didn't pan out as he had hoped, but if Démare had been poorly treated by the team for some time that wasn't all on Gaudu anyway.

Fun fact: Gatto retired the year before Tiberi's first pro contract.
