With Evenepoel last year it didn't really matter, so this should be the first real indication if the shorter distance somewhat changes the character of the race. On paper it should slightly increase the chances of the hilly sprinter types, but the team compositions still speak against it, I would think.

Do you know what happened in his CX season? Only saw the results but seemed like he was a way off his 2025 form

Impressive results for previous season were all achieved as a junior, moved up this season. Good win in u23 Euros, but then tailed off. Maybe ill or injury, did not race worlds.

Yeah, I was being unfair – I guess I more meant what happened to him post Christmas. Had good results through the first half of December (even racing with the elites) then did tail off quite hard. I also assumed injury/illness, or maybe just overracing.

Turns out all I needed to do was a quick Google

I'm curious to compare Cosnefroy's performance to 2024 when he won this race with Decathlon against Wellens and De Lie.
do you expect him to be better or worse? Cosnefroy always used to have this significant spring+fall kind of peaks, so I wouldn't really be too surprised if he gets to win a race or two this week.

He should be fighting for the win. This year's field seems weaker. Besides, Wellens is his teammate this time.
