My condolences. A truly great human being has passed. A wonderful example for bravery in the fight for human rights. It puts him in the same league as Dr. Martin Luther King jr., Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela etc.
And he shared my taste in music: Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa
Btw. what on earth could be so controversial about Havel that it is edited by mods in several posts?
Not quite on the Mandela level for me, but a great human being without any doubt. I remember how my already high opinion of him shot up even further when I heard about his musical tastes!
I was in Vienna when the Russian tanks rolled into Prague, we had live b&w street scenes on Austrian tv and were all suitably shocked by the sudden proximity of the Red Army. I always loved the concept of the 'velvet revolution' too.
Nothing controversial about Havel - the edits by Susan were presumably to nip any spill over from the Hitchens topic in the bud, while Bro's post was, presumably, some form of protest about previous mod editing. I think.
