He was bad at the Giro. Looking a lot better in the Vuelta as he lost almost 2 minutes because of a mechanical.

I doubt Geox will get a licence which would give them an automatic place so will rely on a wildcard invite. They were not given one this year so I am not sure they will next year.

With the merging teams and one disbanding, there will be licenses to give out. If Cobo wins the Vuelta, they will have three GT winners, so they might get one. I'd at least expect a WC slot.

Well, if the positions stay the same in the Vuelta, they get 250 world tour points for 1st and 5th... so if those 2 guys stay, that'd significantly increase their chances to be in the World Tour.

I think if Menchov was on a different team than Cobo/ hadnt lost those 2 minutes, he would be top 3 for sure. He seems to care more about the Tour de France now a days so he will probably be strong if he gets an invite next year.

I feel sorry for Menchov. At least he is working for an increasingly likely win. He should get invited to the TDF, it was criminal this year the weren't

Cobo's contractual situation is like Froome's. Their UCI points are still for sale.
The last 2 seasons count, right? So in Cobo's case we presumably have to halve his points, which might mean he won't get as fat a contract as he would in the past. :D

According to Gianetti, Cobo has extended his contract for two years.

It was not to criminal to not let them start after Gianetti's Saunier Duval history.

People keep forgetting that, prior to this Vuelta, Geox (Duarte aside) did zilch.

I read on here that ASO said next year's wildcards won't all be French teams.
I can understand their selection this year though, if Coppel is a genuine GT hope, he needs to race a GT at the age of 25, and Saur aren't getting wildcard invites to the Giro or the Vuelta.

ASO should lean on Saur and Coppel to release him to say Europcar to consolidate French GT hopes in fewer teams. Not fair to Saur though.

We'll see next year. RS and HTC are gone, so there's room for two of GE, Skil and Geox. Remove Saur and you can fit all three. (I don't think I'm missing something here, am I?)

I think Menchov will be back unless he dodges Contador and rides the Giro. Menchov could win the Giro but doubt he could win the Tour. Possibly podium if riding at his best. Sastre should do the team a favour and retire. Free up some dollars and room for a rider who could contribute more than Sastre is. I used to like watching Sastre race but at the moment and for the past two years it has not been happening for him.

If you're going to mention Duarte, who did well in smaller races, you might as well mention Cobo himself, in Burgos. Or Menchov, who did a good final week of the Giro.

Correction:

He lost 1:23 due to a mechanical, and another 36 seconds due to bad positioning in flat stages (as usual)

You think he would factor that time in before he starts a GT. Maybe say to himself, "Ok, I'll lose this much time on the flat stages, so I'll need to make it up on the mountains and allow for this much of a cushion in the TT just in case I crash...again."

menchov doesn't care anymore about giro or la vuelta.he still has just one big dream, that's le tour.of course the chances to beat contador are extremely low but hey who knows what can happen, just like this year happened.
he still has another 3 years to fight for le tour and have a complete collection of grand tours.but he will need too the best form of his life and enormous good luck.
