Which he did two-and-a-bit months after claiming the team was forcing him to ride through injury. If that's like family for him, I'm scared to ask what kind of upbringing he had.

Yeah, they given up 30 million Euro willingly all while the law was on their side. Anyway, at some point more details will emerge and we can discuss it further then. On top of that no private lawsuits are mentioned.
It's settled, likely over a beer and that is that.
Sport director denied such claims and if there was a problem it seems resolved, no? Sounds like a healthy way to clear any disagreements, which will happen from time to time. Even in a loving household.
The moral of this story is Derek did the right thing and that is settled now. Officially.

30 million was a silly first bid by individuals no longer involved: the purpose of negotiation and the intervention of common sense avoids lawsuits coming to court (neither you nor I know whether they were issued, nor can we assert with knowledge that they were not)
But your acceptance that this was necessary for the "existing contract" to be concluded, and that NSN and the UCI had to be involved seems to be a tacit acknowledgement that the position you have held for months was wrong.

Core mission of a sport such as pro road cycling is promotion of peace as at minimum peace is existential necessity for such sport to exist, regardless of other motives you are in it for. Once the discrepancy against that core mission and actual values it promotes becomes too big one has to act and in desperate times has to act regardless of the consequences. Derek was one of the few that step up and saved face for European pro peloton.
As for the legality. Law was on Derek side, that is on why no private law suits followed. As for UCI arbitrary board, here anything goes for as long as parties involved agree or are even prepared to talk about it. Strictly legally speaking UCI has set legal precedent in the past already, Russia, and that precedent is favourable for Derek. As for what they actually talked about and negotiated in the end, who knows, maybe they will tell us someday. Likely it involved beer.
Now it this gets deleted then please don't ask me such question in the future any more. Then we will just have to accept the fact Derek did all right. And that is that. More in depth discussion to be conducted elsewhere.

The nature of the negotiations, quite properly, is not publicly known.
But again you acknowledge that NSN are an involved party, so I'm willing to take that as an admission that you were wrong all along.

I would say the 7 million paid for Onley give an indication of how much LIDL paid to NSN. Maybe something like 4-5 million I guess. I also think that Premier Tech did not get out of their contract for free.
German supermarkets must be doing a roaring trade, queues running out the door for the bakery section, everyone desperate for an 80p pan au chocolate, people shaking tins outside the shop to contribute to the Ayuso and Derek Gee fund.

Judging by the packs of pensioneers in my way earlier today and the sold out bakery the contributions should be flowing well. Even though I somehow messed up and went to the wrong chain of markets.
LIDL though has a revenue of like 130 billion euros, seems like there should be space for a cycling team, an expensive one even.
You have no proof of that assertion, anymore than I do mine, but I tend to look for the good in people. It if was even a part of of his decistion, it was more brave than anyone else from that team.
