It doesn't look good for Gee-West. There are mitigating factors: he didn't race or even train within a team environment for like 6 months. He had injury or illness at Catalunya that resulted in a DNS on stage 5. But the level might not be there.I just saw stage two Tour of the Alps with Gee an unimpressive 30th place.
If pull up Gee's results from last spring. He was looking great heading into the Giro where he ended up 4th on GC. Great stuff!
2025
3rd GC tour of Alps
4 GC T-A
1 GC O Gran Camino
But this spring: 7th on GC for the UAE tour is his high water mark.
He is peaking perfectly for the giro + tour double just like froome in 2018.Derek Gee-West is either:
A. Flash in the pan.
B. Washed.
C. Just beginning to round into form.
I'm not sure if what we are seeing is not more akin to Froome 2022, but fair enough. He is peaking perfectly for the giro + tour double just like froome in 2018.
The remaining stages of TotA will be telling. He has started the race much in the same vein as last year, but he finished 3rd on GC but being among the top guys on the major mountain stages.I'm not sure if what we are seeing is not more akin to Froome 2022, but fair enough.
