Also, on stage 3, he came in in the group that began with Ciolek (22nd). He finished 25th - that's three points thrown away there because nobody on this earth except maybe Ciolek's mum thinks that Ciolek would beat Cav in a sprint for the line.

why wouldnt he care on stage 3. That was before he lost the sprint to Ale jet and the previous day people were saying that cavendish was saved by cancellaras decision to nullify.

The one thing Cav will have learnt in the last two Tours is that there is no such thing as a lost cause. (As far as him an green are concerned).

He said he would have sprinted, but he thought he was further down the field and out of the points (as did Petacchi who was in the same group)

I think there are far too many points awarded for finishing lower on the stage, I mean starting at 35 points for the winner and then the 25th placed rider gets 1 point? That is ridiculous! I say reduce it, for the 14th placed rider to still get 12 points is just silly (That is Hushovd today)

In an interview last year, Cavendish said that if he were to contest the intermediate sprints, it would reduce his chances of winning the stage for sprint stages, since he wouldn't be hitting the 200 meter mark with a full tank of gas. But that still doesn't explain why he sat up on stage 4. If he had pedaled through the finish line, he would be breathing down Petacchi's neck right now.

He said the same thing today on Sporza.
