Did my shifting cause chain suck?

Was coming up a slight rise today cross geared (big ring, 9th cog on 10spd cassette), hit the release lever for front derailleur and ended up sucking the chain into the chain stay.

Drive train is all new (chain, rings, cassette). Was it just a case of bad shifting that caused the chain suck? I'm sort of paranoid now.

Most of the time I have had Chain suck was on a relatively new drivetrain. Pay attention to where the chain was and you will probably find a catching point on the big ring. Sometimes a sharp edge on the ring that was not quite filed smooth. A chainsaw file against the sharp edges of the valleys in each tooth where the chain caught and never a repeat. I did have an issue with a 10 speed chain ring when I went 11. changed to an 11 speed big ring and all was gold again.
