I know it's how it's written in English, but I just find it a bit funny when articles talk about someone being released from hospital. Did they lock him up or something?

It's more of being medically cleared and /or saying that he's all right to care for himself or someone else will care for him and removing him from their care. So if medically something happens they aren't liable. So if I was taking care of you and you got better, I'd release your care onto you or someone else.

Like at my rehab work, we have patients that leave the building because they can and just there for something else medical like wounds. But if something happens we are still liable for that person.

In Italy entering hospital is confusing called ricovero while
leaving is called dimesso - which is also used for release from prison - go figure.

In the print version of the Gazzetta yesterday there was a really nice photo of Pozzo + a nurse both behind his bike.
It was like his bike had come to "release" him from hospital.

I know that's what it means, it just looks funny. However, given the way some professional bike riders go about resting, maybe locking them up would actually be a good - although sort of illegal - idea. After all, we are talking about a guy who was literally planning his next move while in the hospital after faceplanting down a mountain a few years ago…

In Dutch you generally get fired from the hospital

Can't just have everybody working in the damn hospital!

Well… I guess you could argue you get recharged while at the hospital. So... we're assuming he was neither locked up, nor randomly started working in the hospital?

(BTW, in Danish you just get "Written out".)

Rumours send him to NTT. I really, really hope they are true, and his career is not finished.

Even if they are actually going to sign him we couldn't know what his level is and if could be competitive again, as far I know he still has to resume training and in recent pictures he still had some device immobilizing his arm so long from being able to ride a bike on a road.

Don't know if he will ever be competitive again but it's nice to know he didn't have to end his career with an accident.

you don't need to translate the Italiano to appreciate those stitches!

He says that he was always concious, but couldn't breath for a minute. He feared that he was going to die, he mentions that he saw Lamprecht's crash about a week before it happened.
According to himself he has been pushing 6.3 w/kg uphill before Chrismas, so it looks like he'll still be competitive.

I thought being a competent domestique would've been a huge success given his crash and having to come back at 38.
Well I guess I underestimated him. As always.

He actually performed well in the Tour despite his injuries until it became too much. That was surprising aswell.
I hope he can stay up there and upright for the rest of the Giro and secure a contract for next year, if he wishes to continue.

Also some damned bad luck that he managed to secure a last-minute (2-year) contract... with a team that now is at a real danger of folding.

Well in his situation he was a bit lucky to even get a WT contract. But in the current economy and with a lot of riders with uncertain futures, it's not the best time to be searching for a new team again. A return to Bardiani could be a fitting end, if a better offer doesn't arrive.

So, his problem yesterday was a broken spoke, which - as he's pointed out - is rather unlikely to happen for a guy with his weight.

When I think about how many spokes I’ve broken over the years, it’s surprising we don’t see that more often in races. But I guess always having newly built, top-of/the-line wheels helps avoid that.

Not sure about the UAE roster, but I see him fitting really well there.

Anyway, I'm happy for him, he is looking good. Maybe he will finally get his Giro podium..

Today's attack was something else. He's been riding these past few stages as he was the pre-race favourite. Hopefully he'll be strong in the ITT and the high mountains. A Pozzo win or at least a podium would be something I'd like to see.
