The wife just told me she thinks I should have a mid life crisis and get my "dream bike".:D Once you suppress your jealousy I would love to hear some different ideas or advice. I am currently riding a Trek 5000 w/ultegra.

I race on the weekends so I want something fast! My first thoughts are a Colnago C59, but I am also thinking of going more aero, maybe a Cervelo S3. Also, any thoughts between the big 3 groupsets??

Dream is obviously Camp Super Record 11, especially if you are running with the Colnago

My only proviso would be if you already have a Shimano race wheel set you wouldn't want to waste

If you go with some thing like the Cervelo, group will not matter, red is light Di2 if you are more of a tech head

BTW my current dream would be a Time frame, but it changes

Those integrated breaks are insane....
Any idea on cost for that bad boy?

10000 €, with Di2 I think

about the same as a top Cervelo S3 I recon...

Wicked expensive, but if the wife has given you the green light ;)

Btw, I ride a Noah with SRAM Red, and tbh I'm a huge fan of the way SRAM Red shifts, a clunky feel, love it :D also, very responsive frame :D (but all your options probably are :p )

Colnago with SuperRecord....easy.

Thoughts on groupsets? For many who get Red....BUT with a shimano cogset, chain and Force or 6700 front der, that speaks volumes. Make sure you have a bike shop who will warranty the levers, BB, rear der when they break(great customer service, they replace anything for any reason).

Di2 is expensive, accurate, not light. If ya fall, a rear der is about $750, a shift lever pair(no singles yet) about $1000.

SR works everyday, is light, well made, accurate, beautiful...easy.

C-59 and super record with a set of 2012 deep section campy clinchers that will probably be available Late this year. Buy it from maestro in GB as he ships out of country without taxes. I have seen 1500 to 2000 dollar savings on extreme power frames in the past over Canadian pricing.

Wow, nice opportunity! If I were making a road choice I would start with test riding the Time VRS Fluidity and RXRS Ulteam and chose my favourite. I'm a huge Time fan. Fitted with Record.

Having said that my dream ride is an IF Corvid Cross running SRAM Red Black.

Good luck, you lucky b*gger ;)

Wouldn't get it in bare carbon

Bit weird to get things in team colours, but I think this is pretty subtle. This Cofidis Look is my favourite bike.

Look don't do full bikes yet do they? Get some nice Mavics and Super Records on that frame.

Black + white EMX-7, though I love the QuickStep colours.

Why is Third Reich livery so popular and available from every bike mfg on the planet? Every time I go for a ride the majority of carbon RR bikes are always some combination of red/white/black.

Colnago EPQ if you're a bigger rider, C59 for lighter riders, Campagnolo Super Record naturally.

I would buy something I would keep for a long time, not something that is disposable and the maker will be trying to obsolete as quickly as possible with both cosmetics and technology with dubious benefits. Also why pay big bucks for a stock bike? Paying huge money for a stock bike made for $200 in China is insane.

For stainless steel, custom Pegoretti Responsorium with one of Dario's more subdued paint jobs.
For titanium, custom Eriksen, Baum, Strong, Kish, ...
For carbon, custom Parlee, Crumpton, or Ruegamer.

In addition to Damiano's suggestions, which are all top notch customs, would also add Calfee to that list. Casati has always been one of my favorite Italian builders, perfect for a "mid life crisis". Very rare, very individualistic (sans the Nazi paint job) Full custom available too.

As Titan pointed out, I would add Lynskey to the list of custom titanium. Helix is not custom, but they have some beautiful bikes. My custom Level 4:

Like previously stated Cipollini with Campy Super Record, here's the more Aero model, ignore the Di setup its not a mid life crisis enough:

Offered in different colors as well : http://www.mcipollini.com/en/biciclette/rb1000

Once ordered you set up a trip to Italy to take your new bike out on a ride with Cipollini, how can you beat that for a mid life crisis bike, and not get a divorce in the process?

!!!!!!!

I would suggest you get someone to find out what your wife is doing while you are out racing, and other times. Seriously. I could see her going along with your idea, but to have her suggest it is beyond comprehension. Wake up and smell the coffee.

I was once about to pull the trigger on a Calfee Tetra Pro. What stopped me was a long standing issue with little chainrings rubbing the chainstays. Calfee's solution was to use a spacer on the BB or grind down the chainstay. The thing about it that bothered me was that it was a known problem that had not been fixed for years. These days I get the impression that Craig Calfee is more interested in his program for bamboo bikes for the third world than taking care of his carbon fram business.

I did find this image of a Calfee Dragonfly on their site. I really like the bare carbon lugs with painted tubes. It reminds me that I liked the BMC Impec when I first saw it. I thought the lugs would be titanium or another metal. I was disappointed to find out that they were plastic. To make it even more chintzy, they are not even one solid piece of plastic; they are two clamshell-like pieces. Unlike BMC, Calfee did their lugs right.

oof, that doesn't sound good. Trade out Calfee for Kirk Lee on the list. What's with all the custom guys ending with an "ee"? I think it's some carbon conspiracy.

Interesting concept ;) she races with the same club as me so I know where she is when I am racing... She likes to train with me when she is not at work.... I am pretty sure I am just very fortunate!
