It's satire.

I noticed that re-reading it. I just saw it was dagbladet when it was reposted to me (a Norwegian friend linked me to it with no context or further words), saw the headline and flipped out.

Then I saw "satirisk mediekonsern" underneath the 5080 banner and thought "Doh, better correct my mistake", but now it's too late, may as well leave it there as evidence that, actually, I don't do my research properly sometimes.

However we do have a genuine fourth positive test in the Games, a Latvian ice hockey player. This is a site I'm familiar with so I shouldn't be getting duped again, lol.

Which would mean four positive tests at the games:
- 1x Italian bobsleigh competitor (methylhexanamine)
- 1x German biathlete (methylhexanamine)
- 1x Ukrainian cross-country skier (methylhexanamine)
- 1x Latvian ice hockey player (methylhexanamine)

All testing positive for a banned stimulant but common contaminant, but four disparate athletes from three different sporting areas (I'm counting biathlon and XC as related sports) and four different countries testing positive for the same - known to be detectable - substance.

So is Johaug sub-par at these games? She is 18kg lighter than Bjoergen, a consistent record of doing better on tougher courses. Best steep endurance climber in the world. And Bjoergen just passed her at the top of a 5-minute climb.
Johaug actually seemed to glide really well, Was not blown away by Bjoergen as we sometimes see.
Interesting that Steira could stay with the pace (no-one on the globe could), but then did miss the punch to out-do Johaug.

Was Johaug out of shape, or a bit too cautious and should she have gone a few laps sooner? Seemed to me Bjoergen simply had more VO2/kg than Johaug, which is staggering from a bodybuilder. Makes you wonder why she's so mediocre on Alpe Cermis. Oh yes, she doesn't recover well from races.

Johaug's style might not be the smoothest, but at 46kg, it matter much less. She can't press snow down if she tried. At 64kg and barely longer skis, Bjoergen MUST be be smooth. I am another 20-25kg heavier on a good day, and on soft snow I dig in deeper when double poling that Johaug skating really aggressively.

Why are all athletes caught for the same drug? Does it help performance so much when used in a certain way? Or don't we know yet HOW they use and camouflage it?

The thing is, methylhexanamine is genuinely a common contaminant, and I know that's the argument Evi's using in her defence (I don't know about the others). It was what Rui Costa tested positive for and got cleared of after proving it wascontamination. But apart from that, it also is performance enhancing, but it's not exactly the magic button that EPO can be... so the question is, assuming it is being used maliciously, why is it being used when it's been detectable for years? Is it masking something else? Is it in conjunction with something undetectable? Interesting days ahead, it seems.

I don't think Johaug's form is bad, her lack of acceleration just means that she can't win without a very clear strength advantage. She's like Basso in that, I guess. And the climbs aren't very long in cross country, it's not like there are many mountain passes. Which I guess is why the top skiers seem to tend to be more like classics types than Johaug's pure climber build.

Have you seen that hill? Long and steep enough for ANY endurance specialist to find their maximum heart rate. Any difference in VO2max should be visible in a head-to-head there. Even with a fresh start even.
Too long for a sprint type such as Bjoergen to have any chance of staying with the very best climber in the world. Like an early 90's Armstrong staying with Pantani at his peak, matching his pace all the way up and then thankyougoodbye sprinting toward the finish line.

Durr is taken for EPO :D:D

to bad though, liked the guy
It's easy to like the guy who just seems to be braver or born with a naturally high VO2max. Would he have been targeted/Lance'd?
Someone found it odd to leave the heavenly Sochi to go train at home and eat mom's food?

Got to hand it to the Austrians: Johannes Dürr was hotlisted as one of ten to shine in tomorrows 50K. Yeah, right.
And my prediction for tomorrow? Dario Cologna, micro-managed by Marc Biver, will shine yet again. He suffered from a fracture in his ankle less than 3 months ago, but he'll "by magic" be able to get the gold tomorrow. Why Marc Biver is able to hold any position in sports today, any sport, is beyond me. He should be compacted and sent on a leaking ship to Liberia.

Bjoergen + good skis + Symbicort = invincible!

He went home to train in the middle of the games? Massive IQ test fail. Suspicious as hell and way too easy to find him he glowing. He'd been harder to get hold of somewhere else in Russia. All the testers are in Sochi. Maybe he was operating all on his own without anybody to help him with the logistics. The whole Austrian biathlon team fleeing Torino i 2006 to escape the Italian police must have been scary. There haven't been any more of that kind of Austrian team scandals in the last few championships.

Magic worked well for Justyna's 10km and her foot.
Not so for the 30km. She was Muelegg'd by the Norwegians and quit the race ;-)

And Kalla, just tired from the winning, ceremonies and interviews, or too long a race to do clean? Bjoergen was ok with that.

Dürr positive for epo is a huge news...well, not really.

i've been following particularly closely his performances since the last year's phenomenal climb up cermis. i placed several posts here with my eye brows raised attempting to rationalize the climbing

then, this season, again in the tds 2 last stages he flew up. literally ! passing people left and right (again up mt cermis) was amazing after what he did a day before.

the only question in my mind - that's why i will follow on the details - is whether he flew home to take a transfusion as well.

I think it's really sad for the sport. Finally a new exciting skier came out from middle Europe, that seemed able to compete on the highest level.

We've seen flying up Mt Cermis before. Several of the flights has been by multiple medal winners in Sotchi Olympics.
