Doping ring accused in Norway

There is a big doping case coming up in Norway. The police has used 36 million NOK in the investigation (6 millUSD). 118 people are charged, and the group is accused of selling doping products worth up to 100 million NOK.

The whole case is talked about without the slightest indication that top athletes are customers. It is just assumed that this is the usual bodybuilder/weightlifter kind of doping I guess.

Incidentally the main group of accused come from Trøndelag the region in Norway that has brought us skiers Bjørgen and Northug, and also the dominant norwegian soccer team, rosenborg, and not to forget, the 800m olympic champion vebjørn rodal.

Are PED's a criminalized class of drugs in Norway? If not, then why is law enforcement spending resources on controlling it?

Do the laws treat drugs cleared for medical use as criminalized outside their intended use?? What about uncontrolled substances like GW1516 and other peptides?

As of last year, possession, use and purchase of PEDs is punishable with up to six months of prison. Importing and selling them has been criminal for years.

Buying and using peds was criminalized in Norway only last summer. Selling and importing has been criminal for a long time. Home cooked steroids clearly are popular among Norwegian bodybuilders and gym fanatics. It is not as if this case from Trøndelag is the only one. There are lots of money to be made from making steroids in Norway. Better stuff can probably be bought abroad, cheaper, but customs are checking the mail closely, and if you get caught importing doping products you'll be sentenced. Until July last year the customers of these home cookeries were not doing anything illegal.

Mads Drange also says in his book that Norway is a hell hole when it comes to anabolic steroids, but that it is a problem for the society at large more than for sports.

The most famous Norwegian steroid user is after all Anders Behring Breivik.

Your comment suggests that Norway dopes more than other countries. I'm sure they have their share of dopers but per-capita is also an exceptionally bad metric in the case of a class of sports that requires (a) wealth and (b) a particular latitude and geography.

Norway has been no 1 in winter sport since before the invention of penicillin so what else is new? Best nation in 1924 (first ever winter Olympics), 1928, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1968 and 2002. You are implying the Norwegian success is due to doping however this proves you wrong. Norway has not increased its dominance with the global pharmaceutical advances. You could do a per capita medal count and compare Norway with.... your favourite (?) winter sport nation Egypt. Yes, you have won the ****ing contest?

This dope case is related to recreational/bodybuilding use. All the good stuff are imported and then mixed in the basement. The key word is imported – even the pill making machine. This is the suppliers of roidrage and if anyone in organized sport took any of the stuff they have produced we would probably all know about it by now. From a number of sources, the latest is Drage’s book; we know that in Norway they actually try to catch dopers whereas in most other countries they assist in the doping. ( I am not claiming that everyone in Norway is clean or that everyone else is doping.)

It doesn’t help you case that you desperately try to connect everyone born in the same region to those on trial. This isn’t the only case as many others have stated and it only proves what everyone knows about recreational/bodybuilding doping. Furthermore every county has the same problem and when you present this as a Norwegian problem you are dead wrong. Norway is one of very few countries that do something to combat this problem (we all know it will never go away so some may ask why bother).
