Coquard

Started to celebrate and it cost him. Year of the French sprinters?

He didn't start to celebrate before crossing the line.

if he jumps instead of putting up his arms he wins

If he doesn't attack earlier in the race he wins.

We will never know, ran out of steam because of the race, not a stage of a stage race

Today's result show that those who claim Gaviria "certainly" would have won MSR if he didn't crash, are exaggerating.

Sure, he was definitely the fastest guy in the group on paper, but a sprint after a tough classic is very different from a normal sprint.

All the more reason for Sagan and Cancellara to rue their chance at victory had he not crashed.

Are you referring to MSR, DDV or both?

Because he wasn't the fastest guy left "on paper" in the former at all.

He was in like 15th position when Gaviria en Coquard were in 2nd and 3rd position.
Not even a big exaggeration

I'd say he was, despite his youth.

And MSR isn't really a tough classic, just long. And according to most riders, this year's edition was easier than normal. He actually showed more snap bridging the gap at MSR than in the sprint today. In any case, he was much fresher at MSR.

Riding on cobbles in a race for the first time might have cost him some energy too. Still, I didn't expect him to fade that quickly today. The wind might be a huge factor though, when you see that Debusschere and Pippo came from 11th and 12th position when Gaviria was at the front.

Gaviria has to learn a lot and become much stronger, if he wants some classics big wins. Not going to happen this year... And Coquard could become serious rider!

OMG, he's gonna thirst to death

Speaking of Pozzato, is it just me over-analysing, or did he show good experience when he was on Gaviria's wheel with ~400 to go, then held back (felt/knew about the wind?), dropped a few places, and came flying at the end? Or was he just lucky?
