Well we are moving way off topic here, but as a Norwegian I am pretty convinced that some of our Cross Country skiers have used doping, even if they haven't been caught.

When we are speaking of Edvald I am quite sure he is clean, and he is amazing :)

Really? Who? Bjorn Dahlie? If there is one certain indication on doped athlets, it is that they usually cross the finish line looking like they just been on a sunday trip, for instance Johan Muhlegg. If one ever have seen Dahlie cross a finish line, it isn't that who springs to mind, hehe.

I see now that is says in the rules that this should be a doping discussion free forum, as a newcomer I wasn't aware of that. Sorry for that, even if I mean everything I've said! :)

I must say I'm surprised that it seems that everyone in here thinks (almost) everyone is doing drugs. How sad, and how can you enjoy the sport when it's like that?

One happy innocent camper.

Halvis, I try to stay innocent too!!! Don't worry about it. Who cares anyway what some of these dill holes are saying...worry about it if and when Norwegians start to get busted for doping!!

I find it funny that everyone seems to think that Thor is clean...why is this? Why is Thor above reproach? I too think he is clean...but I think a lot of guys are clean.

For the same reason everyone believes Christophe Bassons was clean: Testimonies from other riders. Kirsipuu said(years after he left CA, with no resason to lie) that Hushovd is the only clean top contender. He also said that it was an established fact among french DSs.

long time reader, first time poster.

Going to comment on Norwegians and doping. I am a good friend of the Cross country skier who right now is the best in the world, Simen Østensen. He has been the best on every summer and fall test past 2 years, and every time he loses form or gets sick for winter due to his training. This year he is doing stuff diffrently to hit peakform in the witner season. I have lived this man for 2 months and trained. I know him from growing up, I know his brother, i know his parents, i know his dog. This guy is not doped, and would never dope. He is tested so much, and monitored so closely. I think when it comes to crosscountry skiing right now, it is very difficult for a norwegian to dope.

However, I do not believe all Norwegians are clean, thats bull****. There have been several obvious doped performances by norwegian athelets over the past 20 years. Won't liste em all here, but there are some very obvious indicators of foul play among our top winter-sports athelets. look at koss's season and his gold in 1994 olympics for instance. But I do think it is a minority, and like someone mentioend before it is a culture thing here.

EBH I don't see being doped, yet. If doping is as rampant in the peloton as most people here seem to think, then yeah he is porbably gonna dope. I don't think you can make a distinction between an athlete doping or nto base don their nationality. You have bad apples in every country. :( EBH is a really nice guy, I know him barely, through mutual friends and through his girlfriend. Really gonna be intresting to see where team Sky takes him. I have a longshoot hope for a norwegian GC rider heh.

Do we really need this, every-time a rider puts up good results the doping talk comes up, it's annoying.

+1.....

I first saw EBH riding during his Bianchi days - there is no doubt he is an amazing natural talent. Does he play with the 'hotsauce' now - I won't speculate.

My point on this thread is to say - isn't it a terribly sad state of affairs that every rider who posts some good results has a question mark over their performance.

The UCI - and all the other stakeholders in Pro Cycling - should realize that they have the lost the complete faith of most ordinary cycling fans and that even with the introduction of the Bio-Passport many can plainly see that little has changed in Pro Cycling in 2009.

It is a terrible indictment on those in charge of our sport.

Rant over!

It only takes one troll to throw out a line and one moron to take the bait to get the snowball rolling.

It used to be. It's still a very significant factor in the sport for sure, and discussing racing without at times touching on doping is impossible.
However, on certain forums, and it's certainly true for any forum dedicated to doping discussion, you'll find a culture of 'look how cynical _I_ can be' one-upmanship.

You know what, even I am mystified as to why this had to end up in The Clinic. It started as an appreciation of cycling talent and devolved into a speculationfest about possible doping?! What a waste of a good thread whose subject is a great cyclist.

The thread was split...

The original thread still exists in the Pro Forum. This doping version of the thread was created rather than deleting a lot of people's posts.

I am not a big fan of messing with threads but sometimes it allows discussions to go where they need to go - and sometimes it just screws things up!

Happy to get the feedback on works for folks

Cheers

I don't know whether he's doped or not. Never seen a single passport result. He's an amazing talent, great for the classics.

What I hope is that a talented rider can win a classic clean. If not, there's no hope for the sport.

My comment was about the content of the posts only. I guess I should have looked in the racing section before assuming it was switched, though my issue was never with moderation. Even I try to keep the dope in the dope. Plus I am a huge fan of the way EBH rides, and with no evidence against him in any way, I am a fan...maybe a bit of skepticism, but a fan none the less.
