Emergency chain lube - should I be doing this?

Right, seeing as I have no official chain lube on hand at the mo I'm thinking of using some "Wahl Clipper Blade Oil"...

Has anyone ever tried this? Is this a bad idea?

I understand this stuff is probably not very good to use when you add rain or wetness into the mix, but if there is no water involved I'm not sure why I shouldn't. (Will be more than happy to be corrected.)

I don't think there would be any problem using the clipper oil, other than expense.

Other alternatives are auto motor oil, or even Canola oil.
My 'do all' household oil for things that are used inside the house is Mineral Oil from the drug store. I use it primarily because it doesn't have an 'oil' smell, and it's safe to use on food preparation machines such as can opener, blender blade bushing, etc.

Looks to me like it's very similar to pharmacy Mineral Oil ...

Thank you for the info, Jay, it wouldn't even have occurred to me to look up what's actually in the hair clipper oil. I'm sure it's perfectly harmless, but I ended up getting some "proper" chain lube before I used the hair clipper oil...

Had to clean the bikes anyway, had to get all of that winter and spring mud off. So once the bikes and chains are dry I'll apply the "proper" chain lube.

In an emergency you can use anything called a lubricant, but it may not be good for the long haul.
