Main sponsor's contract ends by the end of the year (I actually believe they have a clause to break the contract at any time in these circumstances) and since Riis already had a tough time finding a new sponsor this could be the death blow.
Saxo Bank CEO just stated that he is surprised by the verdict and he finds it strange since the verdict actuelly aquit him of doping. He says taht in his world Contador has done nothing wrong. He is glad that Contador will be back for the Vuelta and he hoped that other Saxo riders will step up and win some stages in the Tour.
He further stated that its been their policy only to prolong for one year at a time and that it is still not clear if they will prolong for 2013, but also let it shine though that the Contador verdict wont influence that decision.
Personally, I think Riis, Bertie and Saxo Bank will rebound from this. I think Riis will support Contador 2morrow. Possibly Riis and Contador will even prolong COntadors contract with 2-3 years. The verdict actually says taht CAS finds doping unlikely as the source of Clen, and I think that is very important for Riis and his sponsors. I think Contador will be percieved as a matyr in many ways and as several ppl in the cycling envoroment have stated Contador wont be percieved as a doper in that environment. So I think the chances for
Riis to find a new sponsor (or for Saxo to prolong) are very good, especially if he prolongs the contract with Contador.
PS: I dont think UCI will strip SAxo Bank of their WT license. 1) Contador signed with Riis before the clen case 2) they know that withour COntador the other Saxo Riders would have gotten more points for themselves last year 3) they want the team to stick around and know the Bertie and the team might very well rebound next year if they keep their status
