I think he cracked because Vanmarcke was just behind in the finish line.

He lacked power in his strokes, IMHO could be because his 6 months of no competition. But his aero is the best ever I see from him.

Ye hé said hé is using this TT to try a new position, and try some new things ón his bike

Last time he did that he lost the dauphine on the tt then absolutely bombed in the tour one.

To be fair with a tt competition is not necessarily much different from training. It is riding solo on a tt bike and you can do that out of competition too.
