Meh.

It wasn't a bad idea of Mollema to attack there. He put Stybar on the front early, but Boom and Vanmarcke were simply not able to pass him.

I dont agree that it was a fail. Ofcourse they shouldve made a train to lead a rider out, but organising that with 500m to go with riders that never do such a thing is impossible to expect.

with help from cars and motorbikes i should think

Yes when you saw his teammates sit up, you could see a Giant Shimano rider about 150-200 meters in front of him right behind a car. He must have had a very good draft for a while, else there was no comming back anyway.

Watching the replay changed my opinion. Mollema should've checked if someone was following his attack. Then he would've seen that stybar was on his wheel and he should've stopped racing hard. Now he indeedd made did an leadout, if he checked his back he could've forced Stybar in the wind early.

They did everything good in the final.

Indeed, except Mollema should've checked his back. Besides that good racing by Belkin. They did make the race.

Ironically, the decisive split, enabling OPQS to win in a contest without participation of sprinters, was quite likely caused (or helped, at least), by crash of their rider...

Superstrong Stybar there. BTW what's the best road-race-WC result of any cyclocross champion?

Uhh.. the cyclocross champions of old won major classics such as RVV, Roubaix, Lombardy etc.. Multiple classic and stage winners..
