Bit of a worry re tour - Olympics 2012

They already said if the recovery won't be the best, Thomas and Wiggins will ride full Giro, and treat it same as the Tour. Thomas said too he was going 100% for Classics too, as a captain and leader. He wasn't like that this year, he said and will be much better prepared.

Not too surprised Geraint got dropped today. I'm sure he had time off after the tour where he rode like a real trooper. Looking forward to him concentrating on the classics.

As for the race, congratulations to Phil, but with the hard climbs a long way from the finish on the last day it doesn't look like it'll be enough to take the GC. I still think EBH is in pole position, but that'll become clearer after the TT.

Taylor Phinney: "I'm definitely confident in my time trial ability," the reigning Under 23 world time trial champion said. "It was disappointing to lose my lead, but the team did a good job looking after me. When it came down to crunch time, I just didn't have it. But I definitely feel like I can take time back. I'm really motivated to win the stage tomorrow."

He still should be able to do a high gc placing which is good for taylor.

Millar has odds of 3/1 which, when you consider EBH's odds and their their relative performances and strengths, isn't too bad...
Honestly I'd put my money on Millar. He seems to be close to his best shape while EBH doesn't look very good, relatively speaking. My hope is that he can stay close enough in the GC to make the final two days exciting in terms of bonus seconds.

TBH I dont think Millar is that much better than Phil in the TT .... so I think thats not as much a problem for him as EBH is. And I do think Taylor Phinney is still in it.

If (when) EBH takes the Jersey in the TT, Phil will need to win the next stage and rely on bonus seconds to get it back.

He was fantastic in this stage - but in the end he didnt get enough time really.

Still - keeping my fingers crossed he can be superman and fly the TT :p

well - in the prologue Phil lost 7 seconds to him. In the TT at the tour Gilbert was about 1 minute slower than Millar - but Gilbert had an issue at the start, and a major issue 3/4 of the way around and then stopped riding ..... If he had kept going he would have got roughly the same as Millar.

Not saying Millar isnt good, just that he doesnt seem to be in super form at the moment - and Phil is.

Phil said he is now feeling the effect of the Tour ... so, he's not in a super form ... Phil self thinks he'll loose about 30 seconds to Eddy & Millar

& don't count out Cornu today!

He said he was completely exhausted by the end of the Tour, I suspect he hasn't done much riding since. Hopefully he is starting a slow build towards Worlds now.

Don't forget G did that charity tandam ride the length of Wales (Cardiff - Wrexam) last week with his girlfriend. I doubt that was exactly restfull.

Millar's feeling it. He's the favorite no doubt!
TT course is so Eneco darling. Cobble stones, bike paths, left-right-left-right-etc, dry (or maybe wet), wind blowing. It's a real treat.

Super technical course...should suit Phil Gil well.

EBH had a great final TT in 2009 where he bunny hopped curbs in the rain, so he is quite good on technical courses. If the roads are wet I consider him the favorite for the stage. According the the forecast there is a chance that it will be a little rain during the race.

Yes but it would be easier for guys like EBH and Phinney to take time on Gilbert on a course which has long flat straihgts which they can use their power on the course.

Probably not. But in terms of a professional cyclist that's one day at the office and there have been a couple of weeks since the tour. I wouldn't say that he's been lying on a sofa watching reruns of "Friends" while downing a few beers, but I bet he hasn't been training full out. He'll probably be looking to get back into a bit of form for the Tour of Britain/world championships

its raining now ... and with a super technical one plays into Phil's hands a bit

No, it doesn't. Bad weather and tricky courses favour specialists who have more experience at doing well in such conditions.
