Nairo Quintana, Sergio Henao, Darwin Atapuma, Rigoberto Uràn, Carlos Betancur, Winner Anacona or Johan Chaves? Will them be able to assault a GT podium in a nearly future? Sergio, Rigo and Johan, the new "escarabajos", more powerful riders, the two Sky good in the plain. Then the classic climbers, light and explosive guys, Nairo, Carlos and Darwin. Will dominate the Giro D'Italia and Vuelta a España in few years? I wrote somethimg about Carlos Betancur in the spanish forum, at the end of the page: http://forodeciclismo.mforos.mobi/30984/9183788-generacion-88-90-venus-boys/?pag=6 So he's my choice. A rider able to shine in many scenarios.

I am not sure about being the best climber but I rate Sergio Henao our best hope for podiums in GT. Maybe Quintana is best pure climber.

In your list you forgot about Fabio Duarte, although his inconsistency is astonishing.

I would say Henao.

Pure talent it's rujano but talent is only a part of what it takes to be a great climb, eg. A Schleck

How did you forget Winner Anacona?

I Believe Quintana is the best pure climber and he definitely should podium GTs in the future.
Betancur and Uran are more suited for the Ardennes and Lombardia.

According to our Colombian expert Ryo, Winner Anacona is a decent TTer and also considering his impressive performances in the Vuelta this year, I think he can podium a GT in the future.

I think Betancur is a Gt rider. He also can do it very well in the Classics but as he showed in Giro Bio or Trentino he is a good climber as well.

quintana no doubt. he's just behind contador in my book and I hope/expect to see that later in this vuelta.

also nairo and atapuma aren't explosive at all. they are shere power riders. much more than henao and uran who are in fact explosive. betancourt isn't light either. he's incredibly bulky for a climber.

the best climber in colombia btw is probably camargo, but he's not riding in europe. the man is the king of la linea of past years. destroying the likes of atapuma and henao over many minutes.

How big would you say their 'pure' talent is? One might use Rujano as a benchmark.

quintana has the most talent. I'd say he comes pretty close to rujano, but not quite. he is more allrounded, less vulnerable and has a better mind though for cycling. there is however a huge climbing sensation in colombian juniors. miguel angel lopez. he is the most talented (colombian) rider I've ever seen. he is also from boyaca, but comes from mtb and is much more allround. technical, explosive. all we have top hope for is that he finds some good team next year. in past 2 years he's been destroying every race in climbing by minutes. even in flat itt's he beats the likes of jordan parra, who is a world junior trackchampion some days ago

SO difficult because all of them have performances that make you think - he is the brightest prospect, until you look at the next one.

the logical answer is quintana, one of the youngest and already some insane mountain performances on the mountain stages, especially that one where it was like 5 minutes to 3rd place or whatever.

but i prefer to go left field all throw chips into the corner of Betancur.

To come 4th, on the colle delle finnestrre stage, at age 21, in a pace that was high enough to drop Nibali, that is up there with what any of them have done on a gt level imo

People say he is more explosive, might end up more of a classics rider, but even today the best hill explosive guys are among the best gt contenders - Nibali, Rodriguez, Hejsedal.

Because he is not always up there in the mountains, but shows talent there on occasion, and that he does so well in 1 day races and short punchy climbs, i think that as he grows older, and begins to focus seasons around a gt and everything that comes with that, he will shine the brightest.

winner anacona in his baby giro 2 years ago was beaten in a similar itt by a few seconds by tom dumoulin. he's very good and comes from track as a junior. I can se ehim do a very good itt wednesday

also in 2010 he was great. he was third spot until final flat stage when he had a crash and lost lots of time. otherwise colombia had swept that entire podium.

Quintana...but best GC hope is Anacona cos ITT.

quintana's itt is quite good too. and will only improve. I don't see it much of an acchilesheel for him in gt's.

Erm wasn't Betancur in the break that day?

Anacona is really surprising me this Vuelta although having some freedom (Cunego failing etc.) definitely helps. Quintana will be hamstrung by Valverde this Vuelta unfortunately.

Yes he was in a break away of fifteen riders like Ulissi, Seeldraeyers or Popovych. He was the second strongest in the break ahead Vasil Kiri. He did the final part of the climb to Finestre with Rujano.
