Eschborn-Frankfurt 187.5k(1.UWT) - May 1, 2019

The 58th edition of Eschborn-Frankfurt contains more difficulties than before, spread over 187.5 kilometers and more than 3,200 meters in elevation. The Taunus loop and a more demanding finale in Frankfurt provide even greater challenges - with an exciting new final circuit along the Main river with a spectacular view on Frankfurts skyline. Some of the legendary climbs from the history of the race will make a comeback: the hill in Ruppertshain (1.3km, ø6.7%) has to be climbed two times, the Billtalhöhe (3.5km, max. 8.4%) is included one time after its great comeback last year. Besides these innovations, the well-known challenges like the long ascent to the Feldberg (10.8km, ø5.0%) at the end of the first race hour and the steep Mammolshainer Berg (1.0km, max 23.0%), which will be climbed four times, are on the menu of Eschborn-Frankfurt. The departure time is at 12.10pm, the expected arrival time in Frankfurt is 4.50pm.

Was always quite interesting in the last years. More than one time it looked like it won't be a sprint, but Kristoff managed to come back every time.

the new parcours (introduced last year) definitely gives attackers a better chance. Should be an interesting race again

Wow, the course is harder than I thought. If there was a team determined to drop sprinters, I think they would be able to. Nobody seems to have brought a squad suited to this task, though.

Politt, Naesen, Matthews and Clarke surely won't wait for the sprint, so they might try something.

last year Matthews' attack didn't really turn out to be the right choice though (and he also crashed in Liege on Sunday), so he may be more hesitant this time. But if Ackermann can't hang on (which seems likely after his crash in Trentino) also Bora may join the attacks, and then it could be a completely open race indeed

Yeah, there are riders who can attack but they don't have many domestiques who would be able to ride the climbs hard.
Sunweb probably looks the best with Bakelants, Power and C. Hamilton.

Just to play devil's advocate...

Race is only 187,5 km, there are faster sprinters I believe in the race and that the last 40km are pretty easy to the finish.

What a disappointing race. Barely anyone tried to do anything on the last couple of climbs or afterwards. It looked like apart from Bora, most of other teams treated it like a training ride.

Ackermann is great at chosing high point scoring races for WT without much quality opposition, whilst usually disappointing in greater fields.

Has this race ever ended in anything else than a bunch sprint? (or at least action within the last few kilometers)
