I think it's indeed just to represent his country. It's been 3 weeks since the Vuelta, he was already quite tired at the Vuelta too. He couldn't be bothered with the WC. So if he's not at his best, I'm not sure what he can do during a 1-day race. He can fetch some bottles for Skjelmose.

This will be the first time ever he rides for the national team as a senior. So I doubt that's the reason.

'If he tries that, it could end badly' – Belgian national coach not expecting another monster breakaway by Pogačar in European Championships battle with Remco Evenepoel

In other words: "Please Tadej, don't attack, if you do, we don't have a chance".
This arrogance has no limits.

"Arrogance is the quality of having an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities."
After the beating they got in Kigali, it seems a little bit arrogant to give advices to the guy who destroyed your team, just saying.
Advice? Who's talking about advice? What part of "when asked if he expects another outrageous long-range move from Pogačar" do you not understand?

To me this doesn't look as hard as Kigali. Nearly 70k less, 2000m more climbing - and in Kigali the ramps were relentless from start to finish.
Even if there weren't any climbs, 70 kilometers are very noticeable.
San Remo is tough for several riders because of the mileage.
For example, Del Toro found San Remo more difficult than the 200-kilometer Italian mountain classics.

That's why I'm disappointed not to see Vingegaard in Lombardy, but here. The biggest doubts with Vingegaard are the long classics; that's where he's had problems, in Liège and Lombardy. I'd like him to try those races.
But he's decided not to do either WC or Lombardy, the long ones, and instead to do the short one.

I mentioned this in the Pogacar thread. Having won the World Cup, I think Pogacar is more concerned with Lombardy's record than this European Championship at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't make a great attack, or if he does, and if what the Belgian coach says happens, he doesn't care :tearsofjoy:

What's wrong with the jersey?

I mean, what's not wrong with it?

Looks like Tadez will attack on the last Lerps, it's long enough so he can gain big time ~on~ the climb, not after. Then just maintain a minute lead. It's 75km from finish (a good range for him), but only 125 from start, so some fresh legs may follow him. If he does take 2 or 3 with him, he'll drop them on one of the smaller d'Enfer ramps, no later than the one at 40km. He won't leave it to 25km or 10 km.
