Wrong Merseyside team. Rooney played for Everton, the other Liverpool based team other than the Anfield boys and moved to Manchester United. You sure you're English dude?

Settle down, he's a Liverpool fan and saying what it would be like IF they signed him (considering who he is and he's played at their two biggest rivals).

I was settled. I assumed he'd mistaken the Red coloured jersies of Liverpool and Man Utd. Thought he had typed they had signed him. Fair enough comment originally from dimspace then, makes a lot more sense.

thanks.. and nail on the head..

in other words, i cant stand the guy but if he played/raced for the team i supported i would support him as long as he put in the work.. if he didnt, and was just there for money, or didnt make the effort, he will be turned on very quickly..

Pretty big news to wake up to over here. Never really liked the guy despite his talents for coming in second (and his Vuelta comments did nothing for his image). However, maybe being on an obviously stronger team with the Rainbow Jersey may earn him more respect if only from me. If he continues to be a blowhard, I submit he should put it to his prestas...

cadel out cause DR death in!

José Ibarguren lottos new perspective doctor has had fifteen of his direct managed riders (inc mayo _+ ricco) caught doping during his career. “We are searching for an experienced doctor and he seemed like a good candidate.” Please read that again (we did) "...he seemed like a good candidate" said the Lotto manager Marc Sergeant. How is this a step in the right direction?

Remember if he hadn't gotten an ill timed puncture at the Velta this year then he would have been right beside Valverde. Who knows what would have happened in the final TT.

In reviewing the race footage from that infamous moment its quite possible Evans was his worst enemy. Since he was climbing a fairly steep grade at the time he was likely in his small chainring and his 25 cog in the rear. I noticed that once he dismounted he failed to make any changes to the position of his chain prior to the Mavic support vehicle's arrival. Ever try taking a wheel off with the chain in that position? Its a smart rider that thinks ahead to speed up the process by at most actually removing the wheel themselves immediately after dismounting or at least making sure the chain is in the most convenient position for easy wheel removal. Evans from what I could see did neither. Granted the change was relatively slow by the support vehicle but he could have helped the process but decision making of course isn't one of his strongpoints.

It's the right direction if the team wants to win. It means they are getting serious and looking to up their game.

Teams that have joint prospects like that often will get 'good' results, but not the top step.

Garmin - Farrar, okay, GC guys, top 10s
Milram - Ciolek, okay, Gerdemann..hmmm
Columbia - Cav, great, no jersey, GC guys - struggled (same in 2008, stage wins for Cav, but Kirchen was alone)
Cervelo - Thor, awesome, but no support for Sastre

Cycling is so specialised now that having multiple options is okay, but you will never win both. Green and a Yellow in one year is just so rare that I can't see it happen again

None of the teams that you mention with the exception of Cervelo with Sastre had anyone with any real hopes of winning the Tour and of course Sastre's efforts in the Giro eliminated any chance he may had to adequately defend his Tour title, regardless of the strength of his team's support.

It could be argued that had Armstrong never contracted cancer that Ullrich, Zabel and Telecom/T-Mobile would have proven your theory very wrong. I'm a firm believer that if you're 2 primary riders (GC contender and elite sprinter) are that strong that it is possible to have dual goals/purposes. Likely any team that has such ambitions also has the finances to back it up with quality support at both ends of the spectrum and management that can motivate the riders to serve both masters.

If he is indeed going to BMC, then I can't see how his situation in the mountains has improved. If anything its gotten worse. At least at Lotto they had an arsenal of riders to ride tempo on the flats and protect him, in addition to Wegilus and Lloyd in the mountains. Unless I'm missing some new BMC acquisitions, Evans can look forward to be at his lonesome on each and every mountain once the pace heats up just the slightest bit. Obviously BMC benefits from this marriage quite a bit more than Evans. Their chances of a Tour invite are increased significantly.

Maybe Cadel plans on winning the Tour on the cobbles of Holland and northern France. Big George is quite accomplished there. So too Ballan and Burghardt.

No Cadel has a benefit. More pay for more or less the same result. Not winning the Tour. Wasn't going to happen so he may as well be fiscally compensated. Perhaps he is no fool, rather those fans who believed his every word are the ones who now are questioning their own foolishness in believing Evans.

Pundit nonsense

It has been pretty funny and illuminating to read this thread from the start. All the self appointed "forum experts" shouting at each other about where CE will be going and why. The only thing NOT mentioned was the correct team!

Personally I think he is a great talent who has not been in the best place. I look forward to seeing what the man can do with team support. I also appologize for suggesting (in a letter to tis web site) that the TdF award a beige jersey for non-attacking contenders like him. CE, I'm sorry.

Yes

Perhaps there should be a "late breaking news" thread or threads where everyone can instantly dump their opinions. It can then expire in x number of minutes / hours. And everyone can forget the dumbmass nonsense.
