Gilbert is favourite on the Bosberg he went 4 seconds quicker than Cancellara's SUPERHUMAN ride from last yr on the same climb.

Its a shame to see people keep saying this.
1Gilbert 11 had not spent the 30km going into the climb in a 2 man break. He was fresh.
2 Gilbert is a better climber (whereas Canc can do laps round Gilbert on a flat and descents). he should be doing the climbs better than Canc in a race like this.

3 He (despite having done far less leading up to the climb) seemed to tire himself out more as he got caught soon after. Canc on the other hand had enough left to put in a super tt for the remaining 13km.

With these advantages, Gilbert should have done a lot better than -4 seconds over Canc 10

How has Avermaet changed from a sprinter to classics rider. like he has but how???????????

Belongs in the clinic thread with the rest of the BMC team.

I have seen Van Avermaet this year.

I have seen BMC this year.

Van Avermaet will not podium, let alone come top 5. I see him struggling to make top 10 in this race.

Here we go...the oracle has spoken. if they have been doping then firstly they aren't doing a great job at it and secondly they wouldn't of been just dioing it this year. You're unbelievable.

1) Van Avermaet was never a sprinter to begin with. His victories came from sprints from smaller groups after a hard race
2) Van Avermaet was also never really a cobble specialist if you ask me. His strongest performances came in the Vuelta, where he excelled in the hilly stages and won a hilly stage by beating Rebellin in a small group
3) The reason Van Avermaet never focussed on these races before is his own misjudgement of his ability, which is pretty much steered by Flemish culture. Ronde van Vlaanderen, cobbles, sprints... he has tried to be good at something he isn't top at...

So there you are. I was already shouting 3 years ago Van Avermaet is a guy for the hilly classics. Now we'll see if I was right about that

Thank you DT.......someone else gets it. Van Avermaet was never a sprinter...he is one of those guys that will excel from a small group that has eliminated most of the sprinters. I think everyone lumps him in as a sprinter because of his performances in the 08 Vuelta. Yes he won the points comp and alot of people when they think of the points comp think sprinter. BUT the points comp in the Vuelta is more like the one in the Giro....favours the people who can get over some of the climbs rather than the all out sprinter

Still waiting for someone to show me what race he produces an uphill acceleration which will match Gilbert's (from AGR last year, Vuelta, Geelong, Lombardia etc).
If you watched the race in Geelong, you know what kind of uphill acceleration he has... in the final lap he rode everyone save Gilbert off his wheel, and then Gilbert took over.

Sinkewitz wasn't doing a good job when he was busted for the first time.

Just because you're going crap doesn't mean that you're not doing it. You still have to be able to peak at the right times etc and perform.

You're right. They haven't been doing it just this year.

You do realise that BMC are the rebirth of Phonak don't you? A modern-day Phonak team.

The only difference is Floyd isn't there helping them.

Ah you're right, I forgot about that!

No problem for Gilbert though :p

Can you wait till Monday?

Sure, I have nothing against him and will be happy for him to win, just doubt he's in the same league as Gilbert.

Let's bear in mind, though, that if I had said back in February that by the time we got to the Ardennes, the three monuments would have been won by Matt Goss, Nick Nuyens and Johan van Summeren, a lot of eyebrows would have been raised.

Nuyens had actually been 2nd in Flanders before, and Vansummeren 5th in Roubaix... Van Avermaet has done nothing of the sort in Amstel, he didn't even ride it in the past couple of years.
