At the 2008 TDU I was riding back from Hahndorf with the guys and the Geroldsteiner team came to s and asked if we would show them the way back to Adelaide as their bus was trapped. By the time we hit Stirling I was in a bunch catting to Matt Loyd and following Mark Renshaws wheel. Fang down the old Hwy was one of the most interesting things i have ever done.

Sorry about the writting style, one handed typing with a broken collar bone is really hard

Two (very weak) claims to fame...

(1) I once took part in a club race against the current Aussie RR champion (he's a pro, right?) back when he first started racing and was still way under-graded (needless to say he rode the whole bunch off his wheel and was immediately graded up).

(2) I once span my way furiously past Cadel Evans in Centennial Park (in the off-season after he came 2nd in the Tdf and 1st in the ProTour) on my 1992-vintage Raleigh hybrid bike with my 1-y.o. strapped into the kiddie seat. I think we got a few laughs from the other riders in Cadel's bunch.

from what I gather there are a lot of Australians on here

Weekend saturday river ride in Sacramento Mike Sayers always shows up and sometimes Chris Horner

Did a century with Gary Fisher back in 2000

Invited Saul Raisin to our service academy training camp so rode with him for a week and then just rode with him during the wounded warrior ride yesterday, some of the stories he has told me about the Pro Peleton I have lost a lot of respect for some guys

Rode with President Bush about 3 years ago, probably the coolest experience ever, I know he isnt a pro but man that ride was insane

I posted some pics in the community folders

We get pros showing up periodical to group rides. Hincappi, BMC, Bissel, and a few pro tri guys. We have a couple of pro girls in the area. I did ride with Patric Jonker for a ten days fowling the Giro that should count right? Brent Bookwalter raced at LMC which is a local college and is now on the BMC team. Just read that he will be riding Roubaix this year, pretty cool.

Paul Sherwin and Phil Ligget rode with our shop ride once when Paul was visiting his sister on Hilton Head Island. George Hincapie showed up at the same ride once. Then there was the day I got caught up in a training ride a few teams were doing before a crit in Beaufort.

Sure have, I saw the most of the AIS riders training up a 5% hill, which is about 5 kays long, they did 24-28 kph as a bunch for 3 climbs, and
on the 4th about 24kph and the group split up with riders spread over 1km.
Also saw Luiz Leon Snachez go up part of the same hill 3 years ago at about 36kph.

Rode with O'Grady and LLyod in January during Amy's Ride around the Bellarine Peninsula, our bunch was flying along in the mid forties, myself and 3 buddies pulled out for drink and food, Stuey and Matty followed us and we shared 15 mins, CocaCola, and various other "health foods":D. Later that day we rode with Cadel, he's a good guy...just misunderstood. Often we have various pro's over Christams break in the Hell Ride on Saturday morning's. Matt LLyod a few weeks ago resplendent in his '08 Aussie Nat Chapms kit the day before he lost it for '09.

I've once ridden in the same group to Vassilis Anastopoulos (the greek guy that was riding for Volksbank at a time).

I never had the chance to ride with any other pro here...

Well, you got your bike built by a pro mechanic and sometimes you get to ride with him too....

I rode a few high school races in the early 70's with Jonathan Boyer. All I ever saw was he and Winston's back wheel going off into the distance.

Well I once did the same hill climb as Chris Boardman in Wales at the National Hill Climb. He took the record of 9 Mins 14 secs odd and I did a fat lazy 16 mins.
Does that count.

Hey Vlad,
I'm in OZ now,but I remember the Pommie Hill Climbs. (Can't recall if they were the beginning of the season or the end), but they were Killers! Not surprised that you were 7 mins behind Boardman. I blew up on every hill climb I did!!
Did you ride a fixie? Most did in my day, (mid 60s).

Jan

I got smashed up by Jan Ulrich in 1993. He came to Australia for the summer and was at the New Years Day crit on the Gold Coast. I didn't know who he was and thought he was some prat speaking German. I think Danny Clark got him for the win!

I rode with the Française des Jeux riders the day prior Paris-Tours in 2007.
I guided them during their training, talked for a while with Philippe Gilbert, Frédéric Guesdon and especially with Jeremy Roy.
The talk with Jeremy was very interesting as he is from 1983, as I am, and because we have followed the same way, doing both cycling and high studies at the time (even if I the level in cycling is not the same!!)
I was also proud to be able to follow them when they accelarated in the hills.

I was in the Marin Headlands when a Jelly Belly and Health Net rider rode alongside me, said hello, said they were enjoying the weather, then promptly dropped me.

One time when I lived in Massachusetts I was out riding a loop I often rode and a cyclist turned onto the road a little way ahead of me. Like I usually do when I see a cyclist ahead, I sped up to catch him. Postal Service Treks and Postal Service jerseys were very common then but this guy was wearing Postal Service everything. So on the off chance, I asked him if he was a Postal Service rider. His name was Tyler Hamilton--the name was vaguely familiar but I didn't know anything about him. I tried not to be too annoying but asked him a few questions. He was a nice guy and we rode together and talked for about 10 miles before he turned one way and I turned the other. Turns out he had just won the Mt. Washington hill climb a few days before and had won a new car for breaking his own course record!

Since then I've been a big Tyler Hamilton fan. I was always happy when he had good results, and was very disappointed with his doping positive. I'm happy he's back to racing, happy for his recent good results and hope that he's earning them cleanly.

Last year I rode past a guy that vaguely resembled Tyler Hamilton. He even had a cast on his hand. Thought it was Tyler until I realized that his face was completely disfigured kind of like a neanderthal man wearing a "Tugboat" collar. Probably wasn't the real Tyler Hamilton anyway.
