Time to leave this race and focus on the Vuelta. Yes, the Vuelta and not the Tour. He is banged up so there is no point in chasing windmills at the TDF. Better to recover and reach peak shape for September. He will have only Jonas there.
Vuelta is not possible this year. Otherwise, other riders would have to take away the promised captain's role. That might not be a good idea for the team spirit.

I think the team won't go to the Tour with a 100% focus on Roglic.
They need some good racing. They were not there in the classics and now in the Giro.
I think they will take a sprinter and 2-3 stage hunters + some riders dedicated only to Roglic.
Other teams show that it makes sense not to go 100% for one driver. Visma has a good chance of finishing on the podium. But also works for sprints and wins from groups. Good results and victories bring morale to a team.
LIDL of course totally crazy how successful they are. But even though they have a captain for the GC, they have played all the cards. Now the captain is out and they have 6 wins!
RBH on the other hand have nothing. Because they went 100% for Roglic (although without Jai's crash it might have been different, but with the problems in the team all the decent climbers had to stay with the captain).

Recover, go to the Tour, give it your best crack for third, and if you crash out again, you go home and probably get a little drunk one time and just take a break before 2026.

Roglic's problem has a number: 36. The age he'll turn this year.
It's the most normal thing in the world, unfortunately.
Adam Yates for examplo, at 32, seems to have lost some of his level this year.

I'd be realistic; thinking about
challenging Pogacar and Vingegaard for the Tour isn't very realistic. I have doubts about whether Del Toro and Carapaz would challenge Remco for the podium.
Perhaps Carapaz has returned to his best form, but last year he was far from the top three on the TDF podium.
In any case, Carapaz would at most aspire to be third.
Yeah, it wouldn't be farfetched: obviously "father time" is undefeated and yada yada yada.

But here we aren't talking about battling head to head against Pog&Vingo, and not even with Remco, or Del Toro, or a very in form Carapaz.
NO.
The guy was "flying" during Cataluna yet got dropped by group of 20 people that included:
Damiano Caruso (born October 1987); Wout Poulse (born october 1987); 2025's Nairo Quintana (born Feb 1990); Rafal Majka (born sep 1989), Pello Bilbao (born Feb 1990), the Yates; and a bunch of other guys who might be under 30 but are definitely not 'top dogs'.

Therefore, while expected, the decline seems a bit too much and a bit too sudden.

Hurting from crashes? He was literally like a beetle on his back yesterday in that crash, (if Brunyel pointed at the right rider which I assume he did. )
Wouldn't rule it out.

Allegedly he fell already 4 times at this giro:
Confirmed:
1. Siena's stage
2. Lucca's ITT recognition
3. Nova Gorica's finish stage
Allegedly today too:
4. not yet confirmed, but some people are saying they saw him bleeding at the finish line

Roglic falls as often as Pedersen wins

This Giro is all about the next week. Nothing is lost yet.

There are brutal stages left to come.

Just think about the Finestre stage. It‘ll be about minutes there, not seconds.

Primoz will be back for sure.

Had Roglic already had an accident on the stage Ayuso won?
I don't remember, i think no.

Except for time trials, he's never looked in top shape.

It was very strange that Roglic didn't compete in that uphill sprint against Ayuso.

And it's worth keeping in mind that the strongest here seem to be Del Toro and Carapaz, who has been struggling in the GC for two years. It's not a good sign that he didn't sprint with them against Ayuso.

The accident must have affected him, I'm not saying it hasn't, but the day Ayuso won was worrying because he had no injuries and he didn´t respond to the attack.

Well, at the moment, he's on the back foot. It's difficult to imagine after today he suddenly finds world-beater form, because that's what he needs now.

Hard to take that approach, except maybe for the last part. Looked for highlights that showed a crash or some mishap but he's gotta be down on heart along with time.

Even if he miraculously found form there are too many bodies that can cover him. He'd be dogged by clingy non-workers on any move.

I'd like to see a legitimate injury report after today. A totally healthy Primoz might pull off something in the last several days but it's a bridge too far and he's not injury-free.

Del Toro was jaunty, whereas Roglic looked labored. At any rate, the Mexican is an unknown for the third week and here is where the real Giro begins, which is another reason to doubt Primoz's ability to find that extra gear. Anything can happen though.

If it goes bad again on Tuesday, he isn't going to bounce back at the Tour. He needs to finish the Giro in crescendo.

It makes perfect sense. How would he come out of the Giro in bad condition and turn it around at the Tour? That makes no sense, nor has it ever in the history of the sport.

what? it's happened plenty of times. how many times has Roglic himself abandoned the Tour and then dominated the Vuelta? I swear to god people will argue with any post on this forum no matter how wrong their position has to be. there's like 45 friggin days until the start of the Tour.

He was much better earlier this week, so I think he got quite hurt yesterday. Possibly landing on an old wound?

He went straight to the doctor after the stage. We'll find out tomorrow if he continues, but it's not looking good.
Take care Primož, I know you'll come back stronger. Boss

These things unfortunately happen. With hindsight it does appear like he's been riding with a problem for many days.

What makes it worse this time is there's no real thing to look forward to here. Next up is the worst GT of the year in July and Red Bull absolutely do not have a team anywhere near good enough to even dream of going toe-to-toe with UAE or Visma in key moments of the parcours, so Rog will get tossed into the meat grinder in July as well.
