Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Roglič you fool why can't you be like Pogačar and win by 1min?! You only have barely over 1min advantage over Paris-Nice winner. You should have had at least 2min 30s by now. Your big rival before the race is just 2:15 down, what are you doing? He should have been at least 7min down by now. Win at least 3 stages! Wake up! You won't even reach 100 wins until the end of the season...

I am choosing to believe that Roglič (on the grounds of always being super quick to reach peak form on hard training) is deliberately under cooked to really save himself as much as he can for the tour. He also mentioned something about freezing again and still waiting for summer, and I honestly believe he struggles quite a bit in the cold with his extreme leanness in the recent years and I guess also not on best terms with the rain and cold weather clothes kit at bora.
The alternative can hardly be more that hoping for that tour de suiss win and an occasional stomp on unipuerto stages here and there.

You can find him boring. His interviews especially in english aren't the best, I agree. But I won't judge him because of that.

I find his turn of speed uphill, and his never die attitude exciting. It's easy to root for Pogačar. He is the best at everything. It's easy to be exciting if you are miles better than the second best rider.

He is no Pogačar. He won't attack and gap his opponents on every climb. He is playing the long game. To win against Pogačar (and Vingegaard) he'll need to be extremely consistent, try to follow Pogi wherever he goes and try to strike on one or two occasions when Pogi makes a mistake or when he won't be on his best day (if that day ever comes).

I'll quote myself from yesterday:

It's about the imagery. First stomp for Bora requires out of saddle sprinting + celebration.

Next time he can sit back, win the MTF relaxed & immediately switch off the bike computer with zero celebration.

One thing at a time eh.

Nice to see business as usual has resumed. Now let's finish this one tomorrow neatly & tidily.

Great post.

Congrats but can't cheer for him when he rides like a mountain sprinter. A pity because he is so likeable off the bike.
Same reaction last year?

Arguments over style when it comes to Rogla winning stuff is like people arguing about how Real Madrid wins the Champions League final. It doesn't matter because they just win. Rog also... wins. Aka 83 career wins & he's obviously not done yet. This Dauphiné is shaping up to being one of his more dominant one week race GC victories as well.

What's not to like? Obviously people who don't like him have salty tears but that's normal in pro sports. There's always fans... the neutrals... & then there's the antis. I mean if the only thing people have against Rog is "he's not as good as Pogačar" or "he's not as exciting as Pogačar", then f*ck it, everyone else in the sport should just retire immediately.

Who is as good as Pog? Vingegaard in the Tour? Maybe Mathieu van der Poel in a couple of monuments or the Worlds depending on the route profile? It's not exactly a valid comparison. Pog is like peak Brazil circa 1970 World Cup. Meanwhile I'll compare Rog to a national football which goes as second favorite (or third, depending on the injury situation of the current champs).

He's Italy or Germany, basically, i.e. if I'm using that same 1970 analogy.

Again you nail it, perspective/objective. Pogacar hurt or not 100% duo to prep like last year etc its a fight etc. Pogacar at 100% its just forget it its just is what it is.

Pogacar is like no other in cycling weve ever seen most of us atleast we all know that deep down and Merckx is the only comparable already - HE SHOULDNT be the standard which great riders like Roglic and the rest are judged and measured upon just like you say, that would be not very grateful from a historic perspective even nor even wice or FAIR. Hes just different doesnt mean others still cant be great cyclist.

I don't think people are actually criticizing Roglic for how he races (at least I'm not), people just find it boring. There is nothing wrong with winning sprints. None of us criticize Cavendish for never attacking from further out. But desperately looking for examples when Pogacar won a sprint on a stage he didn't attack on (that often), won't make Roglic any less boring.
