Team took a hit, losing Jai and some other riders hitting the deck, on the plus side Rogla still at 100% and the team still remaining rather strong. Deeper in the week three is on where Rogla will likely miss Jai the most. Hopefully to still manage just fine.

Interesting finish. Concerning from a certain point of view but not entirely out of character when we consider prior such finishes. I'm thinking of one such cat 1 MTF in the Vuelta in Andorra a couple of years ago which Evenepoel won and Rog made absolutely no effort whatsoever to sprint (& Evenepoel crashed after the finish line as well). Two weeks later he was crushing the Angliru.
I'd say it's 'concerning' if it's weather related. I mean it's common knowledge by now but the cold really can be Rog's kryptonite.
And if Ayuso suddenly finds his best form then Tuesday's ITT could be delicate.

it makes no sense why he wouldnt go for maximum amount of time gain today. he was almost definitely getting the jersey either way. i think he just didn't have the legs.

Yes, if he had the legs for the win he would go for it.
He is really good at pacing himself and controling the damage.
I think he wasnt superstrong today. But these days he has in every grand tour.

He implied in this interview that he doesn't have max legs yet and is hoping he works into shape. "Young guys go immediately, but we need some time to maybe, hopefully, start working."

Primoz in good mood. He was a bit sleepy and younger guys reacted faster than the old man. He still has a lot of time to fully wake up before stage 20. This is not a sprint but an ultra-marathon.

I take sleepy means “not paying close attention” Doesn’t seem very phased by it all, but a little hard to gauge for sure because of his joking around.
Watch the finishing 1 km, again. He spotted the front group a big gap and then spun his way up to them in the saddle. It would seem he's f*ckin with the strategy a bit. We'll know by the TT what's up but he can't mess around from stage 15 on.

Yes, I'm biased as old Rogla Fan.
But to me it didn't look like no legs but rather didn't really care early enough.
Would also not rule out Rogla being a bit devious and trying not to overtake del toro, to create some UAE internal tensions. Siena stage and next ITT will tell us more I guess.

It seemed to me that he was afraid of going too much into the red, so he waited until the last moment to give it all.
Watching the heli replay of the last 300m, Roglic caught up with Del Toro + Bernal + Ciccone with ease and it seemed like he could have overtaken them, but he got boxed out against the side rails. That made him lose speed and then he could only manage a new smaller acceleration to get 4th on the stage.

I'd like to remind that Roglic fought the other day for 4 seconds from Redbul KM
How can losing 4 seconds + 10 seconds of the stage be a strategy?
Let's also remember what was discussed here a few days ago. The TDF2020. Roglic lost the TDF on the last day, won a Giro on the last day. And he's going to give his direct rival 14 seconds, and confidence, out of strategy? He knows better than anyone that any advantage in his favor can be important on the last day.
He's also the GC leader. If he's the leader today and gives away the jersey tomorrow, it would´ve been better to have done so by winning the stage and winning those 14 seconds. He didn't get anything positive out of it today.
Furthermore, Roglic put his team back to work today after the day they lost a member. And Roglic is one of those who doesn't miss a stage if his team is working.
Remember the victory he took from Gino Mader (R.I.P.) in the Dauphiné?
He didn't give away the stage today for strategy. He simply wasn't in the shape to position himself and fight for it.
I still see him as a favorite for the Giro. Ayuso has always been very strong in these types of stages, ever since he won at Tour de Suisse.
Ayuso's problem has been the high mountains; until then, we won't know if he's improved in that regard.
And since the route is so bad, if Roglic isn't that strong, it doesn't matter, because he has 10 days to get in shape.
In Albania, Ayuso seemed weaker, but today, Roglic.
The good thing for Roglic is that tomorrow isn't the day for Ayuso to try anything. The bad thing for Roglic is that he didn't try anything on the third day in Albania when Ayuso seemed vulnerable.
You can't waste days; you never know how many seconds you'll need in the last week.
If he loses the Giro in a few years, let's not say that he should´ve won the Giro as is done with the 2020 Tour because "he didn't want to"

Yeah my take based on watching it and seeing his interview is that he was a little better than he looked (maybe second strongest?) but could not go with Ayuso or he would have. I still think he’ll won this though.

Realistically, losing Jai, gaps will need to stay smaller and fans will just need to muster it. UAE, among others, has too many options for being able to control that alone, for weeks. We'll have to postpone that till the Tour, at Giro, due to the circumstances, racing conservatively, till needed, gaps around approximately 1s.
