Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

First of all know that i would take you to the Tour and secondly the deal doesn't include Rogla, so you are safe.

As for some rationale:

The plan is hence to get all three more GC orientated riders to reach the hills. For that i agree the team is good. Alex should peak in second half of the Tour and all in all they say all are extremely well prepared. I like the fact a lot of reconnaissance and analysing was involved, especially if that means having Rogla well positioned on exposed sections.

Injuries, current form, strategy ...
The podium is a reasonable plan.

Fight for the victory in the Tour or winning the Tour against pogacar and vingegaard is not a realistic plan. Nevertheless, crashes happens, and if those two crash, Roglic have a chance of winning the Tour, but it in normal conditions, Roglic can't go against them, like we saw last year in the mountain stages of the Tour before the crash of roglic.

The podium is a reasonable plan.

At first a was bit vary but now i understand that by podium position they likely meant Rogla, Lipo and Alex. Anyway, i agree that the core of the team is strong and should get them to the first rest day, normally, without the usual issues involved. If by any chance all Rogla, Lipo and Alex will be firing in mountains, that should likely suffice too. The rest indeed is down to individual quality at that point in time.

Nah, Rogla owes it to the two, they will all be there. As for the support, here indeed who knows, very likely for teams to take hits. That is it's way more likely then not.

A week from now Rogla will start his seventeenth grand tour, riding as a lead for Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe. That is almost the same number of grand tours then Pogi, Jonas and Remco have done combined. One more and Rogla will be considered of legal age in all EU member states except for Scotland, on where Rogla already surpassed it. Out of 16 GTs Rogla DNF in 5, one Giro, one Vuelta and three times at the Tour.

Allez Rogla!

Nice article :)

Today we also learned firsthand from his confidant that he withdrew from the Giro not because of the crashes, but because of illness. That's why he had to take antibiotics afterwards.
Thanks for sharing. Sounds like he’s coming into the Tour in good shape. Of course they aren’t likely to say otherwise. Where’d you see that about illness? I didn’t see that in the article but did skim sections. Also, when Rolf talks about them not needing to do a train, control the race, pace hard etc., he’s right, of course, but the main issue is Primoz needs someone there with him in case something goes wrong (mechanical at the wrong time, he gets dropped, etc.). They’re going to need to try to get Vlasov in breaks I think, with Lipowitz staying with Primoz. Vlasov will be too tall for his bike to work, though, should it come to that.

In Slovenian podcast. It doesn't say much more, just what I wrote.
That is actually what worries me the most, mechanical and no teammate, who could give him his bike. Dropper post may be the solution. An additional mountain domestique would also be welcome to carry fresh water and ice in this severe heat that is predicted...

Right but I'm seeing the weather might be changing a bit before next weekend and getting slightly cooler. Chance of rain in Lille by Saturday evening after stage 1.

It's also a good idea to take antibiotics if you crash in barnyard debris. I've one teammate that wasn't diligent about cleaning road rash from a street event. Another went into a damp ditch near a dairy and likewise didn't appear that concerned. Both ended up with hospital stays with IV antibiotics.
Aleksander Ammodt Kilde would likely say the same about rehab work in gyms...

So, would Pogi or Jonas survive 5 GT DNFs and still to ride as a lead for Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe at the Tour, or not?

Yeah, somehow doubt that. Rogla did just that, being the toughest and most battle proven. And as Rolf said, Rogla has it too, the kick, so let's get this party started!

P.S. As for general narrative, at the Tour 2020 Rogla was the overwhelming favourite with arguably the strongest GC team and Pogi at best a podium contender with arguably a weak GC team.

Interesting.

That isn't necessarily a comparable situation. Roglic's 2020 team exuded hubris and everyone was getting great results. Pogacar quietly swam in the slipstream all the way through the stage finishing on the Grand Columbier where he put 40 seconds into Primoz. Stage 17 Primoz followed Sepp Kuss and buried himself to gain 15 seconds back from Roglic on Col de la Loze. Stage 18 Roglic sat in while Dumoulin and Wout dragged them to that summit in the same time as Primoz. They didn't blow up Tadej and that stage and when the TT did come both Tom D and Wout VA finished 30+ seconds ahead of Primoz. I think Tadej played his reserves just right and Primoz peaked several stages too early.
If it had been a flatter TT he'd have probably saved that Tour.

Both of those riders and teams learned alot about how to manage team assets. Visma was clearly way too confident about Primoz's form that late in the game. I doubt any of the 3 teams we're projecting as having the best podium placers will overcommit except maybe JV, again. That leaves UAE, RBH and whoever else has a wild card rider in week 3 to mess things up. Doubtful it will be mano y mano with 2020's top 2.

I'd love to see it but don't expect it.
