Stupid Duffield

I remember a quote from the infamous D.Duffield during the Tour of Poland 2 or 3 years ago. I found it rather disturbing.

Co-Commentator: Tommorow's stage is pretty flat. It does have a bit of a kink in it in the middle.

D.Duffield: A kink? Who's he? What part of China is he from?

What an idiot!

"Soler may have hung on for a top five - poor guy. He could taste the podium champagne until Di Luca dumped vinegar in it. Well, they don't call him the "killer" for nothing."

Mayo werd altijd 180e in de tijdrit, en dan waren er 100 renners in koers.

Mayo always came in 180th in a TT, and then we're only talking about a field of 100 riders.

"When I began to think about coming back, I knew that because there had been questions in the past, many of which we considered to be unfounded, I knew that there would be questions about performance. Like there are questions about all kinds of performance, if it's a 100 metre dash at the Olympic Games or if it's the 100 metre free style at the Olympic Games, people will question good performances, and I doubt that I can perform well.
But in the off chance that I do perform well, I didn't want to leave any doubt, and so I reached out to Don and asked him to oversee this program, to be completely independent, completely removed, for me to do whatever he asked me, I would do whatever he asked me to do. I think it's a landmark program. I think it's the first time where an athlete can actually be totally validated in the chance that he's successful.

In my opinion is that Don Catlin is beyond reproach. He is one of the foremost researchers in the Anti-Doping Movement. His CV is a mile long and I don't need to try to repeat it, but I have told Don and I told him last night and I will continue to tell him this. Don I have myself, I have my bicycle and I have my cause, you come whenever and however you want to come in order to validate these performances. And I felt like that was an important part of this equation as well."

1969 Ronde van Vlaanderen. During the race, after Eddy's attack with 70 kms to go:

Guillaume Driessens (Faema DS) to Eddy: “Are you nuts? You'll die in the headwind, wait for the group!”

Eddy Merckx: "Go f*ck yourself!"

Merckx won with over 5 minutes on Gimondi (2nd).

After stage 13 of the 2005 Giro, Rory Sutherland responded to the question "How was it":
"Can I really say? F***ing hard. Unbelievable. I think they found every climb in Italy today. Tomorrow we've got to do it again."

You look OK...

"I'm not OK, I'm screwed. I think it's pretty normal when you race for seven and a half hours. I looked at my computer and we had climbed for 5500 metres of climbing. I'm not trying to whinge about it but it gets a bit ridiculous. You could do half the climbs and have the same result. Now you just make people pull out of the race and that's a shame."

Apparently Driessens said to Merckx at the finish `Now I understand, the only tactic is winning'.

Sean Kelly's wife once asked him if his car meant more to him then she did. He replied "No. The bike comes first, then the car, then you!"
