This film is new to me.

My all time favourite must be A Sunday in Hell, but The Greatest Show on Earth, La Course en Tete, Vive le Tour, Hell on Wheels and Chasing Legends are also worth seeing.

It doesn't get better than A Sunday in Hell. The greatest doco on the greatest race there is. ;)

I also quite liked Fausto Coppi, una storia italiana. A passion for cycling history started ... Can't find it on the web but great pictures.

For speakers of French: Paris-Roubaix, la légende: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0ewL8iuQG8

Takes a lot of footages from A Sunday in Hell. Quite strangely the footage of the demonstration stops when you here their slogan "Amaury pourri" (ASO rules! :D)

Also like the various Canvas docos (for speakers of Dutch):

Eddy Merckx - De Zesde Tour : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWaioX6Ycrw
Jempi Monseré - Eeuwig Wereldkampioen : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcGFv0eQLzE&feature=relmfu
Tom Simpson - Een Monument op de Ventoux : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmwPrhyMoxs&feature=relmfu
De 'De Flandriens" and "De Flandriens van het Veld" series : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVyVswlX7O4&feature=related

Would love to see De Vloek van Ronse but I missed the coverage on tv and don't have time to watch it on YT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJ8fUFqIZ8k&feature=relmfu

You also have numerous films (true fictional films) around cycling. Rue des Prairies (starring Jean Gabin) is arguably the best of them. The one in which he's naming a whole list of 1920's riders including Henri... "Henri who???" "Henri who!! But Henri Pélissier, idiot !" :D

"About Pro Cycling" really limits a potential reply.

One of the best bike films ever for me was and is Bicycle Dreams. a Doc about the Race Across America

one of the worst for me was Road To Roubaix

Le Velo de Ghislain Lambert is one of my faves.

For documentaries, I found the CSC and the Highroad ones just a bit too slick and managed. If there is ever a Sky one I don't think I could bring myself to watch it...much as I think they are a superslick and well-drilled team, I don't much care for the PR. I like the authentic grittiness of 'The High LIfe'...a mid 80's documentary about Robert Millar. You can see bits of it on Youtube.

Its amazing to look back on The High Life and see the sort of conditions the riders had compared to these days. No super luxury coach with hot showers at the end of a difficult mountain stage. Just perching on the edge of an open boot of a renault estate, having to wipe yourself down with a towel. :D

Or a burly Frenchman rubbing you down while wearing unfeasibly tight denim shorts! And a coffee in a tiny paper cup as a warm down!:)

It's uber-cheesy and not really about pro cycling, but I do really like Breaking Away.

This is the only one I've seen... yes, pretty cheesy, I agree! Though there are some pretty interesting things in it for cycling buffs, here is a whole thread about it for those who are interested:

Breaking away (1979)

I love American Flyers/Quicksilver/Premium Rush/Breaking Away/The Flying Scottsman. I'd love to see "The Cyclist", does anyone have a copy? or how about Bicycle Dreams?

Would love to see that Millar film from 85.

Isn't Chasing Legends mostly about Pharmstrong?
