acf made the point above and elsewhere that if goss had timed his sprint marginally better, he'd have won. and i don't disagree.

but here's the thing. it is a lot easier to time your sprint if you are faster than everyone else.

so it really boils down to cav being faster. you can't take anything away from goss, or haussler, or white. they just got beat. and you can't say that simply adding renshaw would change that. it might have even made it worse because cav is smart enough to know which wheels to follow. if goss lost haussler's wheel, would he have followed renshaw better? or would renshaw have picked a better line to begin with? you just can't know.

Sagan interposed himself between Goss and Haussler. Cav still ended up following Goss, even if Renshaw was leading out Cav still would have followed Goss. Cav could not muscle his way in between Renshaw and Goss either.

Matt is a great guy and talented, but the reality is that any other team would have been gagging to have a guy of Mark's talent & form to select!

The Matt you are talking about is White right, not Goss???. I have already stated my displeasure about Renshaws' non selection in the thread on CN ( Renshaws' non selection at the Worlds ). In this thread however no one has stated why we should get rid of White

I didn't agree with the Renshaw decision but Matt White has the runs on the board here. He managed to get a non sprinter (Cam Meyer) into the Ochre jersey in the sprinter's TDU and then keep him there against all odds. He's no fool. He has the silver medal in the Worlds now and coming second to Cav is no embarrassment. Had Goss not podiumed things might be different.

I am not going to bad mouth Whitey, he is good tactically and has plenty of experience; however the corrupt way the Copenhagen Australian men team was selected requires a review. Sadly Matts role in the affair has to be looked-at (even if his involvement was simply to hold a position in the Aussie Cycling Mafia)

All riders good enough should be given consideration when the National Team is being selected. Given the likely finish to the 2011 world title was a bunch sprint surely there was room for the best leadout rider in the world. Also given Australia were also riding for a bunch sprint (& don’t be fooled they always where), how did a specialist lead out rider not fit into the team. It has become obvious that Renshaw will never get the chance to ride for his country, he deserves to know Why!!

The silver was a great result & congratulations to the whole team. But away from that, we must review this selection process & generally have more transparency in Cycling Australia Management as the sport moves into a new era where Private Business is coming on board. All these guys bustin themselves to get in the GreenEdge Caravan is not a good thing. This One Pathway - Boys Club Stuff has worked well for Australia in the past as we increased our presence on the world pro scene but now it’s time to facilitate investment in the sport in Australia by opening up the sport. Whitey part in this closed shop Renshaw Selection Debacle has left a stain, and he has to come clean about it, or stand down.
