rui costa should win this now.
gesink and frank can though attack him brutally but that can put in danger the tour's programs.

Yes, like he did on Verbier.

He had problems adjusting from altitude camp. Just like Dauphine last year where he was good in the final weekend after being bad on the first stage (lost 1'31 there)

Remember?

Costa is developing into a really strong rider.

i always thought he would be a future top dog for the hilly classics, but never thought he would become this good on 1 week races.

i guess losing those extra kilos he still had from his u23 days really helped him to improve his climbing

Yes. I also remember his climbing has been distinctly meh the last two seasons, whether he had been doing altitude training or not.

Nah, lost too much time on Verbier. The only way Costa could lose is if he completely collapes (pressure, fringale etc.) or if the other riders pull some huge tactical trick (unlikely as well, his team is good, and nobody is going to waste a lot of energy shortly before the Tour). I don't think anyone can make up the current gap 'just' by riding away on a climb, Costa is too strong for that.

This should be really fun for the next stages considering the supposed worse climber is in the lead. Let's see how good Rui will be the next few days and if Gesink, Schleck, Nieve can put in the red on the climbs. Hopefully, Rui will win in the end :)
